This place is hilarious and almost breathtaking--who knew there are so many trinkets, toys, souvenirs, books, you name it--devoted to bananas? And who knew someone was going around collecting all this stuff? The $1 admission is a dollar well-spent (and you get it back if you buy something).

International Banana Museum is a must visit when passing by or visiting North Shore, CA. Its a museum full of collections all about banana's which you'll go banana. They have flavor banana treats and a bar sit and enjoy your food and or drink. Everything about this place is fun to see including the owners are fun to talk to. I highly recommend it, you will not regret it.

I was in Palm Springs for a conference and had a half day free to explore. I did a hike at Joshua Tree then drove out to Mecca on the Salton Sea to visit the International Banana Museum. I mean, how could you NOT visit this place?! The museum is without a doubt an old fashioned roadside attraction that we don't see much these days. It's not big, and the exhibits are just Bananas! Literally. Admission is a $1, but if you buy anything they give you a dollar credit. The staff was chatty and very nice. We stayed for a banana shake, which was delicious, played with some of the puzzles and games they have at the counter and then went on our way. Mecca and the Salton Sea area are pretty desolate. The banana museum is a nice bright spot and will add a bit of whimsy to your day. If your near by you should stop in for a peak, you'll like it bunches.

The Banana Museum is a unique, fun place to see. They have everything banana you can think of, and some you have never thought of! Try the banana ice cream....it tastes great. Very friendly couple who runs it.

This place is right before entering the Salton Sea Recreation area. The hours say it opens at 11:30am but the owner didn't show up until 1pm. We showed up at 11:30 am and just returned on our way back. The museum is small but it was a cool place to visit. The donation is $1.00 but if you buy anything it is waived. They have regular flavors of ice cream, and banana snacks (chips, moon pies etc). I left spending $4.50 20 minutes after entering and enjoyed every minute of it.
