We love this trail and use it often. We have been using it for years for both hiking and biking. Lovely ocean views a some spots. Many flat areas so small children and folks of all ages will be comfortable.
Went there during the last flooding and it was amazing to see the river flow to the pacific. Flat and easy to hike.
This trail is a wonderful asset to the community. Some sections are more exposed and the ocean may be viewed while walking. Other sections are more protected and great to use when it's windy. From the trail there is access to the Mad River as well as to the ocean. My friend and I walk on the Hammond trail almost every day and we feel safe. We see many other folks who also walk, run, ride horses, ride skateboards, & ride bicycles. Most are friendly and courteous. Only problem is the inconsiderate folks who don't clean up after their dogs; but most people are good about doing this.
Hammond trail has it all. Beautiful scenery. Beautiful trails. Beautiful ocean views. Perfect and paved and handicap accessible. This is the trail of all trails. And so aptly named!
A fantastic place to go on a run or bike ride and just keep on going. many ways to enter and exit trail with great views and partially paved trail.
I just had my first experience on the Hammond Trail: the part from near Mad River Beach to School Road. The bridge, first built in 1905, is a wonderful way to cross over into yesteryear. We didn't see one car on the road. The path has vistas of the ocean and also beautiful farm land. We did see bikers, and it's a great biking trail, too. I certainly plan to do the whole walk to Clam Beach at some point. This is a not-to-be-missed walking trail!!!
