Our first contact with Tin Roof Bistro was not promising: we had reserved a dinner table but despite the reservation we were told to wait 1-2 hours before getting our table freed. Not acceptable, ever!!! We would never ever had given the place a second chance but because we were staying in our trip nearby, there was once a chance to go to lunch at Tin Roof. Those of us who had salads were most satisfied: very fresh tastes with just right amount dressing. Service was friendly but felt a little hasty, like the waitress were too busy for you. Fast in, fast out - but quite often you'll like your lunch like that.
It was our last night of a 4 day stay in L.A. after spending the day enjoying Universal Studios in Hollywood. It was 9pm and we were both getting hungry but were kinda tired and just wanted a quick meal but something good.
The Foursquare app popped up a few suggestions and the Tin Roof was close to our hotel and looked inviting so we decided to head there; glad we did.
The outside looked very inviting and "homey" and that carried thru when we walked in. The interior was clean and had a "comfy" feel to it like we were at a friend's house; one that had a long bar and huge viewing kitchen :P
Service was great from the moment we were greeted at the door as thru our meal (the bus help was a bit flat but still good). We were provided a complimentary order of their Brussels sprouts appetizer since it was our first time there (nice touch) I was planning to try it anyway so that was really great. It had a bit too much lemon in it for my taste but since it was free I didn't mention it (maybe I should have).
My gf and I both love oysters so were ecstatic to see it on the menu and ordered a half dozen which were amazing; mildly sweet and very clean.
I love seafood and had the scallops with risotto. I'm not really a big rice eater (funny being Japanese) but I finished the whole dish. She had the pear salad which she loved, port wine poached pears with brie.
They offered some nice wines by the glass so I indulged myself. We had to skip dessert since it was getting late but they did have some great offerings.
All in all a nice late night spur of the moment dinner and one place I will definitely come again the next time I'm in L.A.
During our visit the drink order was slow to come and incorrect when it did. Management provided complimentary wine without us asking. The menu offers a wide range of items and everything we had was excellent. The place is always crowded so reservations are mandatory.
We enjoyed Mother's Day menu brunch with great food and drinks. Service was very good . If you can, when the weather is good, try and get a table outside. Brussels sprouts and the curry chicken sandwich are a couple of their signature items.
