As parents know, it’s not easy finding a nice restaurant that will please everyone in the family. La Palapa passed that test. My wife and I had been before and enjoyed it. But this was our first visit with three teens and one of their friends. Everyone enjoyed their food very much. Between us we ordered Patty's Combo (an appetizer plate with nachos, quesadillas and taquitos), Fajitas Mixtas (beef, chicken AND shrimp), and an array of carnitas, chicken and cheese enchiladas. The chips and salsa were fresh and excellent! The location by the bay is wonderful, inviting a nice stroll along the water either before or after eating.

Why not a fifth star? The waiting. On both of our visits we waited 5-10 minutes just to be seated, not because they were full but because no one came to seat us. Then, the wait for the food to be delivered was long. The table service was also a little spotty. They seem understaffed. BUT, the staff is VERY friendly and that makes up for most of the waiting. The sauces on the enchiladas are too sparse and somewhat thin, so consider ordering extra sauce. The fajitas were served with only two tortillas even though there was enough fajita makings to fill three or four. Ask for additional tortillas when you place your order. The tortillas are excellent.

We will return and try other items on the menu. We’d like to find enough good reasons to add the fifth star.

I love the food. It’s tasty and not over seasoned. The pozole and burro are my favorites! If the tree leche cake is available, have some. Delicious! Service is friendly and fast.

We were excited to give La Palapa a try, based on the good reviews, but we were sorely disappointed. On the plus side, the location is great, close to the water, and the ambience is nice and cheerful. Most of the food seems to be homemade, and Negra Modelo is on draft. But there were too many negatives to warrant more than a two star review.

The much-praised Mole consisted of two large, over cooked, dry hunks of chicken breast smothered in a very average mole sauce. I thought you were supposed to cook the chicken IN the mole! The rice was bland and mushy, the refried beans were pale and slimy. But the worst part was the cheap cheese on the beans and inside the Chile Relleno. Liquid at first, it soon solidified into a firm mass resembling silly putty, which sat on our stomachs for an hour.

Kathy ordered a Margarita, and was asked “lime or strawberry?” This should have been a tip-off, but she went ahead anyway, and received a ghastly sweet concoction containing not a drop of Tequila. If you have to serve “wine Margaritas” you need to TELL PEOPLE!!! And it cost $8.50! Shameful.

We won’t be back.

Friendly staff, good variety on menu. Wait time for food is long but they warn you. Good chips and salsa to hold you while you wait. Burritos are huge!! Very popular with locals.

No little burritos here - they are the real deal - full burros...enough for two or two meals. Friendly waitstaff and generous tasty portions of authentic Mexican fare.
