“BEST FRONT DESK STAFF EVER 1”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2012

The Magic Castle and it's wonderful staff literally saved our recent vacation in Southern California. After experiencing miserable weather on the beach in Oceanside(go figure), we decided to head to Hollywood to do some sight seeing. Originally planned to stay just 2 days but extended it to 3. It was WELL WORTH THE MONEY!. Magic Castle is as centrally located to Hollywood Blvd as you can get. Wonderful accommodations, great HEATED pool and so many perks...free snacks, breakfast, movies, popsicles for the kids, etc. The front desk staff was absolutely fantastic. We will definitely return.

Recently stayed at the Magic Castle and had such a pleasant stay. There was 5 of us and we stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment. It was very spacious with a separate living room, dining and kitchen.. Very clean and comfortable. All the staff we dealt with at the front desk were so friendly and helpful they even offered us discount vouchers to Madam Tussauds and told us where the best places to go in LA and places to eat. The hotel is in a awesome location literally one block away approx 5 min walk from Madam Tussauds, Chinese Theatre, Walk of Fame etc. They also have a great heated pool which was open 24/7! The hotel had many inclusions.. they had complimentary continental breakfast daily, free WIFI, free snacks, chocolates, sodas, etc! We also got the morning paper daily with a reminder of the weather temperature for the next day so we were prepared! There is a laundry on site as well costs $1.50usd for a load of washing or a dryer. We parked our car at the hotel also for cheap nightly rate! Great Hotel with great rates!

Just as great as the first time we stated there!! I love the fact that my kids can swim without me worrying about where they are because I can see them right from our living room window, balcony or even when I'm at the front desk. It's a block or so from the Kodak Theater, down the hill from the historic and delicious Yamashiro restaurant. It has a kitchen so you can cook dinner on some nights and save a little. But, the absolute favorite thing of my kids was the free snacks and continental breakfast! Chips, candy, cereal, scones and sodas, Oh my!! Almost forgot, it's minutes away from Universal Studios!!

My partner and I selected this hotel solely because it offered access to the Magic Castle next door. For those who don’t know – the Magic Castle is a private dining and performance club for magicians and other similar entertainment professionals. Entrance to the club is restricted exclusively to members, their guests and guests of the Magic Castle hotel. Although we’re not in the field or big aficionados of magic shows, we had read a review about the atmosphere and performances and had wanted to check it out. We had an enjoyable evening at the club and saw some top-notch illusionists, but unfortunately did not see Neil Patrick Harris – he supposedly is there regularly and is on the Board.

I was set to submit my hotel review and decided to read some of the others quickly and glad I did b/c my original review just looks like I plagiarized all the others especially regarding the dominant thought on the service. Rather than mimic the rest, I’ll just say this is how you run a hotel or any customer service business. From the pre-arrival welcome email to check-out, every person we worked with was exceptional -- friendly, professional and welcoming. The manager/owner must have a talent scout background. The room we had was off the pool and used to be a 1-bedroom apartment (I assume). Furniture is basic and I liked the plantation shutters on all of the windows. The kitchen was equipped with essentials and the bed was comfortable. I especially liked the dual closets – one for each of us. While the hotel room may be rather frill-less, the amenities like the complimentary convenience store (my term b/c they had so many snacks, candy and soda to select from I literally felt like a kid in a candy store) and the pastries and juice in the morning was great. After our evening at the club next door, it was nice to return to our hotel and be greeted by glowing candles in the lobby, hot apple cider and a friendly front desk representative. I definitely recommend this hotel to others looking for great service and large clean rooms in the area.

The five stars are for the service (top-notch -- friendly, uber-professional employees who seem to love working there), the value, and the location -- can't beat it, just behind the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. It's definitely an older hotel, with some funky quirks that are purely cosmetic and minor (door was a little hard to close, some of the paint and furniture are a little beat-up, walls are a bit thin so you can hear the neighbors), but all the important stuff (bathroom counter, bed -- basically anything you have to use or touch) is tidy and clean. Free snacks and DVD rentals at the front desk. We didn't use the pool but several families with kids seemed to enjoy it.

Room Tip: The queen room (smallest/cheapest) is cozy but big enough to get the job done. If you plan to spend...
