...and the funk goes on! I stayed here earlier this year and was blown away by the individual funkiness, the super friendly team running the joint and the individualism of the rooms.
Don't misunderstand, I LOVE CHIC! But every now and then it's nice to mix it up a little, and boy does this place mix it up.
This stay was a quick 2 night stopover, 1 night at the start and another at the end of my LA trip, my excess baggage was stowed without drama, and I even got the same room on return, NICE!
Big thanks to the desk, hola to the house staff who returned my wallet (love you most)
COOLEST ROOFTOP!

The Hotel - it's very nice, the rooms we're compact but functional like a swiss army knife. We stayed on the 5th floor facing the street and although there was construction across the street, it was mostly quiet. Bed was comfy!

The location is ok - you're not too far from galleries 15-20 minute walk or $4 Uber. Lots of shopping next door: Acne, APC, Urban Outfitters. Take a Uber to 3rd and eat at Grand Central Market or a 2 minute walk to Two Boots Pizza (open late.)

The restaurant was yummy ...prices we're inflated. On the weekend it was so packed we weren't able to get a seat. Don't bother with the coffee shop - $$$ There's a better option on Broadway on the other side of 9th

The roof top bar had cool views and good music, but we didn't like the evening vibe - people we're absurdly uncool. Lunch time on the roof was much more chill.

The people who work at the Ace are really nice, but not too helpful. When it came to directions, no one knew anything - thank goodness for the Free wifi... They did however remember not to use feather pillows in our room (I'm allergic.)

Beer Please! 5 minute walk to 9th and Main for all your booze needs - it's in a weird mall with a Citibank on the corner. There are mini bars in the room that totally fit your store bought 6 pack.

Hi Mills R! Very glad that you had a good time at our hotel and that you experienced a lot of Downtown LA. Really sorry that we weren't able to provide better service at the Front Desk with directions - this is definitely an area that we'll work on improving! Please reach out to me if your travels bring you back our way. I'd love to set you up with reservations, directions, details, and whatever else is needed to ensure you have a great stay.

Was in the USA for 3 weeks and this was by far the worst hotel for service that we stayed in. Reception desk staff have absolutely no idea what to suggest re activities in the local area. Coffee guy was plain rude. Most staff completely disinterested and simply focus on looking 'cool'.

Pool is tiny. Standard room is ok but small. Takes itself way too seriously. We found it cringey/like Shoreditch a few years ago. Too try hard.

Hi Stacey P, I'm so terribly sorry that we let you down with our service! Normally we get very positive feedback on our staff, who are mostly locals and very interested in what's happening around Downtown Los Angeles. But it sounds like we fell short this time and for that I apologize. Please reach out to me directly if your travels bring you back to DTLA - we'd love to show you a better side of Ace!

Been here a few times now. This place is cool. Great coffee downstairs, great cocktails at the roof bar. Cool clientele. Ace has the complete package for a cool downtown stay. Rooms are mostly small. Shower not totally enclosed fyi for the bashful. Rooftop "pool" might be a bit of a stretch, given it's the size of a large hot tub (which coincidentally it becomes one at night). I don't see it as a negative, just a different experience. Makes for excellent lounging with a cocktail in hand, meeting new people, listening to good music. Rooms are a little noisy, given it's got more of a party vibe. Late night munchies? I recommend the grilled cheese sando. As in their other hotels, the Ace has a great minibar selection. DTLA must stay.

Hello angelathomason, thanks for staying with us and leaving some feedback. Very glad that you enjoyed your stay! I can't agree more with your statement about the grilled cheese sandwich - it's one of my favorites. Did you know that you can order it with bacon?! Divine. If you come stay with us again I'd certainly be happy to set you up in a room with a private shower. Our rooms feature several different layouts to appease both the bashful and the exhibitionists. Hope to see you back soon with a cocktail in one hand and grilled cheese in the other!

Best,
Beth Outlaw

This hotel can come as a bit of a surprise to travellers - it is within the old United Artists building and still has the theatre next door. On arrival, our luggage, coats etc were out of the car and onto the trolley and the car whisked away to be parked before we could catch our breath. The check-in was faultless and we were taken to the room by one of the staff, who demonstrated how everything worked. The rooms have come in for criticism on this site, but we thought they were really good - the concrete walls, ceiling and floor did not detract from the very comfortable, large room, with all the amenities. We stayed for 5 nights and the staff were always very attentive; despite being much older than many of the other guests and all of the staff, this was never an issue. The restaurant served interesting and tasty food and drink and there was a roof top bar (with a pool) which we visited one night when there was an art event happening. Again, most people were young, but we were made most welcome and joined in many of the activities. There is a DJ on some nights during the week.

Room Tip: If you don't want to be disturbed by the music from the roof top bar, ask for a room below floor...
