We visited Rivernook Campground over the 4th of July holiday for 5 days. We were a group of 3 partial hookup sites and our families had a blast. Our sites were along the little creek which offered much relief from the heat especially since the river was too strong to venture into especially with little ones.

The staff at check-in was super busy but still retained a friendly and welcoming attitude and would stop and say hi as they drove by throughout our trip.

There were some issues we experienced that were not very pleasant, such as the 1 shower stall in each of the 2 buildings that barely trickled water. My luck of the draw both times because the shower facilities were busy both times. Also, during the middle of the trip, one of the shower facilities had plumbing issues and had to be closed down so everyone flocked to the 1 remaining shower facilities that contained 4 shower units. Because there were so many people using the showers, the hot water ran out and was startling cold but I didn't mind that too much.

I was surprised that there were not more actual restroom facilities for the size of the campground. There were port-a-potties available and surprisingly clean for such a busy weekend.

The campaign ground contains fairly spacious sites and we saw facilities coming around cleaning up vacant sites throughout our stay.

The campground hosted a little parade our first night there for 4th of July and people walking and in golf carts started a procession from the office throughout the camp sites with glow sticks, microphones, music and more. The little ones really enjoyed watching that!

Despite some unforeseen issues that came up, we had a great time and already booked our sites for next year. I think this will be our new summer camping spot and look forward to the continued improvements they make there.

Room Tip: Sites along the creek

Nice quiet camp ground beside the Kern River. Kids and dog friendly. This is a good family camping place. 5 minute drive to Kernville.
Sites range from basic tent sites, partial hook ups (water, power, cable tv) to full hook ups. There are also 'free showers' and clean bathrooms too.
Dump station for rv ' s
Security patrols at night, so no music after 10pm. Makes for a quiet camping experience. Also lots of shade trees when it's hot.
Squirrels, skunks, deer romming and also frogs in the small creek running through the camp ground.
Sites fill up fast, so book ahead.

We resorted to this CG after a negative experience with the Kern County Parks people which cost us part if not all of a $88 reservation we made in error.
This CG was rated very well in Moon's West Coast RV Camping & we definitely agree! You had your choice of sites directly on the Kern River ( which was Roaring during our stay) where you can watch the River Rafters go by or you can opt for a site by the quiet but pretty brook that runs through the middle of the CG. The latter is a safer & entertaining spot for families with small children as they can safely wade & play in the creek.
We chose the creek & it was a very quiet, enjoyable stay.
Our only problem was locating the shower building allocated to Transient Campers that require a passcode to use. We wound up at the Shower/ bathrooms for the Resident / Permanent folks. This one had no locks or passwords & although it was basically clean it was Spartan & old looking. However, the Men's Showers were All Out of Order with no warning sign posted, so while I managed a decent shower, my husband had to head to the Correct Shower building for transients to take his.
All in all, a very nicely kept & quiet CG in an attractive location, close to the village!

We Camped with a 37 foot RV and pulled a 12 foot trailer behind us with a motorbike. This place has enough room to maneuver, and is right on the water. Although we didn't park right at the water because I wanted a pull through site. Those that did, loved it. You can pull up a chair at the river and watch the river rafters floating by. Eventually you will want to go for a ride. The River is high and there are exciting rapids to run. I got 4 runs woohoo ! The only negative is the dusty roads and parking spaces. But, hey, you can wash all that off. There is NO WIFI far from the office where we parked, but, you should be off that damn internet for a few days anyway right? This place is close to town for stores and restaurants, approximately one mile. Right now it's hot and the water is cold that runs from the mountains into the Kern River. Explore the roads all around, and go up Sierra Hwy to R-Ranch, and also up 155 hwy to Greenhorn Summit. You can ride around Lake Isabella for some great views, and there are day use areas there to swim or fish.

Room Tip: you can get a riverside site, if you dont mind the river roaring by all night. (it may help some sleep better).

Just got back from staying at Rivernook campgrounds , it was beautiful the water level is way up and everything astound is green . We rented a trailer but you can tent camp if you prefer . The weather was perfect , you can go into town for breakfast , lunch or dinner or cook at your campsite . It is relaxing to here the sound of the river by your campfire , can't wait for next year to do it again !
