Yes, the location is great, but we were emotionally drawn to this place because we love historic inns and this one is absolutely loaded with historic interest. Judging by the nicely-captioned photos in the lobby, it seems like nearly every silver screen super star of the 1930s and 40s stayed here. Our room was very nice, the staff was friendly and there were some little touches that made us feel right at home. This said, there were two glaring deficiencies that left us feeling that “once is enough.” The worst drawback is the lack of air conditioning. Cross-ventilation doesn’t work well in this place, and we were very hard-pressed to remain comfortable. The second drawback is a front desk time schedule that is arranged with much greater concern for the convenience of the management than the needs of guests. I have never before stayed in a hotel where front desk services shut down at 8 pm and don’t formally reopen until 8 am. I won’t do it again either, if I can help it.

Room Tip: Room 102 offers nice views of the lake and mountains.

Fire drill by local fire department a 8:30 PM. SMOKE, HOSES, AND LOTS OF NOISE. No notice to guests before. Later I found out they do this once a month. My 8 yr old Granddaughter was very shook up. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

We booked to stay at the Heidelberg as part of the RCI exchange and we were so pleasantly surprised by the lovely rustic lodge we arrived at!
After reading other reviews we weren’t sure that to expect or what other visitors are actually expecting!
It had a lovely 4 sided fireplace in the main lobby which the kids loved sitting round & a games room, lots of games and dvds that can be borrowed for evening amusements...
We had a lovely 2 bedroom apartment with a balcony and gorgeous views of the lake and mountains and a fully stocked kitchen, perfect for a weeks break.
The Heidelberg is perfectly situated for either skiing or lake holidays and even for summer trips to Yosemite National Park.
We loved our stay and the staff at the resort couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly and made our stay so enjoyable after we had flown from the uk
We would DEFINITELY return!

This is a very clean, rustic style ski lodge. It's a little dated, but overall very nice! The bathrooms and kitchens look like they've been updated which is nice. The carpet, furniture, and drapes look a little "older" style. The old wood windows open which is nice but they are very heavy. Because there are only small wall heaters in the rooms, there is no overall air ventilation system, so, the rooms tend to smell like whatever has been cooking in them. The people were VERY nice and helpful, but there is no one there between the hours of 10pm and 8am, so you're kind of on your own. The internet there wasn't great, but the idea is that you are enjoying vacation and the great outdoors. However, I'm self-employed and in the evening I would need to check in on several business related items so it was difficult to do this when the wifi was spotty. It has beautiful views of the lakes and we thoroughly enjoyed staying there.

Room Tip: Get rooms on the side with the view of mountain and lake.

The Heidelberg Inn at June Lake was a pleasant surprise as we booked it at the last minute through our timeshare home property. This is a beautiful historical hotel built over one hundred years ago. The property was used as a movie set during the Gable and Chaplin era. More recently June Lake and June Mountain are used to shoot vehicle commercials.
The rooms are very comfortable and the staff is friendly and accommodating.
We will definitely be returning to this hotel.
