“A charming visit”
Reviewed 24 January 2012

From Stefan's greeting and help when we walked int to coffee at 4.30 a.m. on departure, this superior small hotel delivers superb value for money in a gorgeous setting. If only the weather had cooperated, but that was not their fault. We had one of the upstairs roooms in the main house with a big comfortable four-poster, a fireplace and a view to the gardens behind and an en-suite elegant and good-size bathroom. Robes, free water, wi-fi, a welcome bottle of wine, complete the picture.
Their wewbsite does not do them justice, we agreed with other couples in the free wine and local cheese evening 'warmer'.
We loved our visit here.

We booked this place for a weekend trip of wine tasting in Sonoma. This hotel setting is beautiful. There is a little creek that runs along the back of the hotel and a great pool area as well. Its feels like a very luxurious without being over the top. Perfectly quaint. We had a group of 6 and met some fun people during the happy hours in the evenings at the main house. Our rooms was very nice, had a jacuzzi tub, fireplace and just very nicely done. The breakfast was nice and casual, lots of fresh pastries and fruits. The staff is very helpful and genuine. Great little find.

Room Tip: Try to get an upgrade if its possible. The suites are very nice and roomy.

We stayed in a creekside suite and the room was so comfortable. This hotel was intimate without feeling like you are in a bed and breakfast. It is a place that is very special because it tows the line between luxurious and quaint without forcing you on other couples or guests. The breakfast service was really wonderful with casual food (loved the eggs) and the area of Glen Ellen is convenient to wonderful wine and food! There is also a "mention this ad" coupon in a Sonoma tour brochure that I picked up along the way and the hotel honored the 15% off.

Room Tip: Get a creekside Zen suite

We spent two nights in a studio suite. My favorite part of the room was the bed, which was very comfortable, though the fireplace was a nice touch! The front desk staff was pleasant and hotel is conveniently located to area attractions.

Unfortunately, we did not negotiate in which room we would be staying. We were given the poolside (PS) room, which, is next to the pool. Perusing though reviews and photos on the website/tripadvisor there was no mention of the poolside room, which has fewer windows and a very small, enclosed patio surrounded by vine lattices. Bathroom heating was only provided by a small in-wall heater on a timer that not always adequate for winter night. Our shower head could afford to be updated or at least cleaned with Limeaway or the like. Because the wall adjoins staff/grounds workspace, loud noises were occasionally heard – I imagine this is not a problem in other rooms. Several light bulbs were out in our suite, making some areas dark. The fireplace was very nice, but to turn it on we were required to use the timer; theoretically, you should be able to set it to "on" without having to listen to the ticking timer. Breakfast was good, but as a previous reviewer mentioned, I would expect more warm food at The Gaige House. I was also surprised that the kitchen did not have a dairy alternative such as soymilk on hand; the chef was not particularly warm, either.

Some of my critiques are likely unique to the poolside room, and therefore may not represent all studio suites. Also of note: we booked our room a month and a half in advance through Sniqueaway.com; a week or so prior to our stay, the hotel’s website had posted winter rates lower than our Sniqueaway rate. Because we had already paid through Sniqueaway, we were unable to book at the hotel’s lower rate.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We appreciate all feedback and make use of it whenever possible to improve our guest’s experience. Poolside is actually a highly requested room, especially in the summer as it opens directly onto the pool area. Poolside has central heat and air conditioning, in addition to this we have installed wall heaters in most of the suite’s bathrooms to further ward off any winter chill, they usually work quite well. The shower head in the Jacuzzi tub is modern and has very little sediment buildup but I have asked to have it cleaned. Our housekeeping department checks all of the light bulbs each day when servicing the rooms; however there are two sets of switches in the suites, one set near the entrance and the other adjacent to the bed. The switches near the door are dimmer switches so if the lights are dimmed it is possible to conclude that they would need replacing. Due to safety concerns the timer on the fireplace is required, however it will be replaced with a silent one. We usually get rave reviews of our European style buffet breakfast but I will request to have soymilk on hand in the future. I am glad the bed was comfortable and that you found the hotel nice and front desk hosts pleasant. Sincerely, Eric Norman General Manager

Only had a one night stay and we checked in around 6pm. The place was very nice, but a bit out of the way for me. May not be an issue for many people, and I'd still consider straying there again. The room was clean and nice. Tried to find out if they did breakfast in the room so I called room service around 7-8am... no answer, left a message and did not have anyone call us back before we checked out. That would be my only complaint. Front desk was nice, and also worth noting is they have a decent selection of DVD's you can borrow free of charge for the night.

Again, I'd say overall it's a pretty nice place...not sure if I'd pay the rate again for what we got, but then again this is wine country and everything is expensive around here. In addition maybe we would have noticed a few more key items if we had stayed more than one night. Definitely a safe bet though.

Room Tip: We had Room 7 Faced the back of the main building on the first floor....far from the front, but also...
