Tried the Summit at the Glen Ellen Inn (which is a great restaurant) and have to say, we enjoyed all of the wines we tried.

Our driver from Beau wine tours recommended this stop at the Audelssa tasting room, as I had never heard of Audelssa otherwise. I was a bit apprehensive because it was a tasting at a wine shop and not in a vinyard. However, the tasting experience here was very nice, the wines were lovely, you got a little cheese and crackers to pair with your wine, and the service was friendly and attentive. We ended up purchasing a few reserve bottles here we enjoyed them so much. It was a very good experience and I wouldn't hesitate to return to Audelssa.

During a recent trip to Sonoma, we visited seven wineries with the last being Audelssa in Glen Ellen. It was suggested by the sommelier at the acclaimed Sante restaurant at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa. As one might expect from a sommelier's recommendation, the wine was excellent and we indeed saved the best for last.

If you're not careful, you will miss this tasting room located in the historical Charles J. Poppe Building in "downtown" Glen Ellen as opposed to so many of the others which are on winery grounds. The tasting room looks straight out of a Restoration Hardware catalog, all the way down to the silver sage paint on the walls and features your choice of seating at the counter or on one of the large leather sofas.

Andy was our friendly "tour guide" for the tasting and was generous with his advice and suggestions. If you are on the fence about a wine to purchase, he will gladly (and wisely) give you another taste to help you with your decision.

The $15 tasting fee is a little steep in comparison to many other options, but once you have tasted the wine, you'll understand why. Insider's tip: if you mention that the Fairmont sent you, the tastings are 2 for 1. But that won't matter much because, as always, the fee is waived with a purchase and considering how good the wine is, you definitely will want to buy some.

If you want a more formal and refined experience, be sure to reserve the salon for a special private tasting of Audelssa's premier wines including their rare "Library releases" paired with cheese.
