We spent two nights in Mendocino and came back to Carine's both night because of the delicious food and atmosphere. It is a family run operation with everyone on site to make sure you enjoy your meals. I had fish and chips and my wife had fish tacos and both meals were scrumptious with huge helpings. The next night we had the most delicous italian food ever. We shared a meal because we had seen how large they were the night before. Mama Carine was the sweetest person and the whole family tries to make sure you have a great meal. One warning though. Bring cash or have your checkbook. I learned the hard way that they don't take plastic. But Mama Carine was so sweet about that too. She told me not to worry and come back and pay her later. We came back in a few minutes with the cash and she gave us a huge hug and thanked us. We returned the next night with cash and a big hug for her.

First thing, when it is time to pay, no plastic. That could be a problem since the prices are pretty high.

Food was excellent but the owner seemed a bit like a salesman pushing the highest price entrees. Very nice personnel and pretty neat casual location on dockside.

Carine's is one of the oldest restaurants in Noyo and it has had its ups and downs over the years--better known for fine Italian fare than seafood. Right now it is at a serious down that feels like a bottom-out. Very few locals visit the place anymore and for good reason.

Most presentations are over-described and mediocre. Sauces are generic and taste like they're out of a can. Menu is extensive but seems to feature restaurant-supply nuke & serve numbers that will remind you of airline food.

Service is quick, but pushy with the menu and especially the wine list, also seriously marked-up. On the plus side, views of the marina and harbor from window seats are memorable. But if you want an above-average dinining experience in Noyo, virtually anyplace else is better

Five steps in we were greeted by the owners son proudly enjoying a stunningly presented prawn cocktail, complete with baby shrimp embedded in the cocktail sauce, as well as a side of fried eggplant and an artistic salad of greens, and vegetables with julienned jicama. He was obviously on his own break but jumped up to show us what he was enjoying as well as promptly seat us and make us feel very welcome and at home. Located in the harbor, we were seated in a warm maritime room that eminated the class of an upscale restaurant perfectly intermixed with the feel of a family home generations old. Our waiter gave us the rundown of the nights menu highlights and was lightheartedly joking and making conversation when we inquired about the restaurants history. "Mama" was soon to make her appearance at our table to take our order. The air about this wonderfully warm woman is indescribable. She is just cute as a button, and for her near eighty years looks fabulous. Our food far exceeded our expectations, and while the prices were bit on the upper end we all agreed it was very worth it and really the four of us ate, drank a few beers, had an appetizer (oysters rockefeller) YUM! Each had a generously sized entree, and our total was 138.00. NOT bad considering our hearts were warmed as much as our bellies from the lovely food! "Mama" gave us each a heartfelt hug and customary italian kiss on the cheek, which you wouldn't even think to wipe away, being as by the end of the meal you FELT like family. She rang our tickets on an old fashioned till made of wood and the tips simply went into a basket to be divided later. no fuss. I have nothing negative to say about our suppper! You must experience Carines!

We chose this restaurant for a late lunch because there was shade for our dog who would wait for us in the car ... Not really going for fine dining. However, the food we had was good, if not great. The clam chowder was good if a little bland. We ordered two cups and a crab sandwich and fries to split. Our helpful waiter, said he would charge for a bowl of chowder and serve us two cups. The sandwich was good ... Not great. But, then, I'm famous for my grilled crab sandwich. At about $15 the sandwich seemed pricey. But, when it came there was plenty of food for two. The bread with the chowder was great. The fries were very good and there was a huge portion. The iced tea was good.

Bessie, the owner, and her sons were helpful, friendly and wanted to make certain all was well. If I had read the restaurant reviews here before we went, we would have been prepared to order from the Italian menu and to bring cash since plastic was not accepted.

We would definitely return ... At least one more time. And, we should have been prepared for the cash only policy. We've found most of the restaurants we've visited this week in Garberville and Fort Bragg ONLY take cash. (And, it's a business practice that makes sense given the depressed economy here on the North Coast.)
