We took a walking tour of Coronado and ended up at the Hotel Del for lunch and we were starving! With our 3 month old in tow, we knew we couldn't have a grand sit-down meal and we couldn't spend an arm and a leg, but we needed some food. Our meal was very pricey, but it was really good! We ordered a poke plate and the dips (humus and veggies). The price was $45, $55 with tip, but the poke was REALLY good! This was ideal because our little girl could be with us and it didn't feel so stuffy that we couldn't take her out of her carseat to be with us. Pack your checkbook!

My wife and I travelled back to The Del last year with close friends, and to say we were less than pleased would be an understatement. Our first night there we went down to B&S for a pre-dinner cocktail, and were greeted by a filthy tabletop that was eventually cleaned by an unsympathetic waitstaff member who appeared to wish she was anywhere but there that evening. When we asked her if anyone would be available to clean the table she sighed like we had just asked to split an atom with a butter knife. It was not a pleasant experience at all.

We live in San Diego and took our out of town visitors to the Hotel Del. It was time for lunch so first went to the Babcock and Story Bar for a quick lunch. We sat inside at a table for four but left after discovering the menu was very limited and not appropriate for lunch. We then moved to Sheerwater for outdoor covered dining. There were many empty tables but were told there would be a 10 minute wait. This in my experience means one thing - there is not enough staff so after being seated expect slow service. On our way out we noticed a small sandwich place across from the Babcock and Story bar. We thought this place would be quick so we could continue with our tour. We ordered four panini and asked that they be heated. While waiting we ordered 3 Mai Tai cocktails and water. $50! The panini and their accompanying small bags of chips were $57. When we opened the containers in which the panini were served, we found that 3 of 4 were cold despite our asking that they all be heated. Bottom line - there are many other good restaurants in the area with great views, good food and good service. This spot serves Starbucks coffee but your favorite Starbucks severs much better food and better service and is a much better value.

This is a great bar with an aggressive "nibbles" menu including sliders and nachos and pistachios and popcorn. The bartenders know their stuff and the drinks are full value. Oh, and the waiters and waitresses...always smiling!

Holidays at the Hotel Del are tradition. Secured a seat outside to enjoy the sunset view and great people watching. Had a Blackberry Basil Seasonal Cocktail that was refreshing with steep price of $18 and companion had an Old Town at $21 while we shared a nibble of Adobo Chicken Peppers at $25 recommended by waitress that were scrumptious. Resort prices at the holidays can add up. We passed on the parking that would've been an additional $30 and parked street side. Inside the bar was busy and staffing on a Saturday evening at cocktail hour could've been increased. Our waitress was superb and kept an eye out on guests. She was worth the 20% tip!
