The good: Thank you to Grayson for being so accommodating. He changed our room and helped any time we needed something. He is a great asset to your hotel.
As far as the hotel itself, The beds are comfortable, the rooms clean and large and the location, directly across from the beach can’t be beat.
The bad: I am a very light sleeper and had requested a quiet room on my reservation, and again at check in. What we got is a room that faced Orange Ave. and was at the end of the restaurant downstairs. What this meant was that we had continual, loud traffic noise-my husband, who can sleep though anything, was awakened by the noise at 5:45 a.m. The diners waiting for tables at the restaurant were directly at the bottom of our stairs and very loud. The adjoining room to us was separated only by a thin door so we could hear the family next door when they were in the room. I got about 4 hours of sleep that night. We talked to Grayson the next afternoon and he was able to get us a room in a separate area that was quieter-although our view was the heating/cooling unit. At least it was quiet and we were able to sleep!
Perhaps there are better rooms and more charm in some of the other areas of the hotel but unfortunately, the pluses did not outweigh the minuses for us.

Room Tip: Don’T take the rooms around the restaurant if you want to sleep!

Thank you for your review and feedback. We appreciate the time you’ve taken to share your experiences, positive and negative. Indeed, our location is fortunate, as we are so close to the best of what the area has to offer, and thanks for the shout-out for our dedicated team, Grayson included. However, the issues you experienced with the restaurant noise is understandably upsetting, and we apologize for it. We will be sure to bring up your comments in our next internal meeting discussing what we can do to improve. Again, we really appreciate your feedback, it helps us give the best service possible. Thanks for your review, and we hope you’ll give us a chance again sometime, we would work to put you in a more quiet area of the hotel.

The El Cordova Hotel is a beautiful Spanish-styled boutique hotel in Coronado Village which offers charm and that personal touch at a reasonable price. The original structure was a mansion built in 1902 by Elisha Babcock (the namesake for Babcock & Story Bar at the neighboring Hotel Del Coronado). The El Cordova Hotel is located one block from the Hotel Del and the beach. Every room has unique layouts and furnishings. There are three types of rooms and price levels: Standard, Deluxe, and Suites. Our room had multi-colored Spanish tiles, an intricately carved bed headboard, and a kitchen. The cleanliness of the room was immaculate. The Hotel is not ‘opulent,’ however it is very ‘classy’ and ‘comfortable.’ There is a small outside courtyard area which is intimate and relaxing. The strengths of the El Cordova are in what is is ‘not.’ It is ‘not’ a huge resort with every service under the sun and hundreds of guests. It is ‘not’ priced as much as many people pay for monthly rent on an apartment. The ambience of the El Cordova gives a guest the feeling of coming ‘home’ instead of reaching a ‘destination.’ Visit the El Cordova Hotel and discover the difference between an experience like snow-shoeing through virgin snow in the Colorado Rockies, and being dropped off in Disneyland when all of the school kids are on vacation. Kudos to the El Cordova Hotel and its staff for offering travelers the opportunity to have an affordable, homey and relaxing vacation experience just a short walk from one of the finest beaches in the world! Special mention and thanks to the Front Office Manager John Sloane for being such an extrordinary representative of the Hotel.

If you've been to Santa Fe or Taos and stayed at La Fonda, this will have a ring of familiarity to it. The décor is very much like La Fonda. When we arrived shortly after noon we were pleasantly surprised that we could check in and take our bags to our rooms, that was a great help. Everyone at the desk was always pleasant. We ate at Miguel's many times while there and were lucky enough to get the bar three times, we prefer bar seating to tables - and it was basketball time so that was important to us. They had the best fish tacos, but that's another review! The location was fabulous, right across from Hotel Del and the beach, two good restaurants on each side, the bed was extremely comfortable. If you've slept in a "Sheraton bed" it was equivalent. The closet could have almost been an extra bedroom! I saw some of the other reviews and I will admit it was a bit of a tricky walk up the stairs with my too heavy suitcase, but I would ask ahead if that is an issue, other than that it was awesome.

Room Tip: ask about the stairs to upper rooms if that is an issue for you

What a nice surprise to have the feeling that I got more than I paid for! I could tell on the telephone the place had a good vibe. Very cheerful and accommodating. It was not until I walked into my room that I was pleasantly surprised with the floor plan. No it’s not a Ritz Carlton but I can promise I was happier spending the week at this quaint hotel than any Five Star hotel! First the location is incredible. We walked across the street every morning spending the day at Hotel Del Coronado. We enjoyed the grounds, the sun deck, the restaurants and of course the beach basking in the historical amenities that only “the Del”can offer. I’ve stayed ( and PAID) at the Del several times. This trip was so much better than others because I had a feeling of home at El Cordova. Loved the kitchen!! Loved the bed, loved the pillows. Overall the hacienda lifestyle was just perfect.

My wife and I spent three nights there. We had chosen it based on reviews on Trip Advisor. While it may not have received five-star ratings, we decided to stay there. We were so pleased to have done so (despite the loud A/C unit). The staff were pleasant and helpful (we were offered an upgrade to our room without asking for it :-), the exterior design practical and inviting, and the interior design lovely and artistic. The reason I would strongly recommend it is its location. There is no shortage of places nearly to eat, and, most importantly, it is across the street -- I repeat, across the street -- from Hotel Del Coronado, which has a spectacular beach. So you can get the best of Del's beach and views without having to pay for its comparatively expensive rooms. The ferry landing is a little over a mile from El Cordova. We decided to walk the distance to take the ferry to downtown San Diego. I recommend taking the ferry (and the walk if you are able to). If you do so late in the afternoon or shortly before sunset, you may get some wonderful views of downtown SD.

Dear Lutfi,
Thank you for your review! We appreciate you taking the time to write such a positive assessment of us. We take pride in our unique style and charm, and are glad to hear that you enjoyed it as well. Indeed, we are located close to many dining options and activities, and our location makes us a great place to be if one is looking to explore what Coronado and the rest of the San Diego area have to offer. In regards to the issues you had with the loud AC unit in your room, we will take note of this and see what we can do to improve the situation. Thanks again for your feedback, and we hope to see you again!
