brilliant all in - beautiful spot, fantastic view, amazing food (i love the 'big boss's' father in-law), very well designed house, great, great bunch of people looking after you - thank you!

the previous reviews were all spot on + there is wifi now. true, the 'private' beach is quite hard to get too, but our kids loved pottering around down there...super mini adventure climbing down :)

I've stayed at Villa Manare with a friend to end our Sulawesi trip in style. It was amazing! I couldn't stop looking at the scenery from the infinity pool. The villa also has a private white sand beach. The staff was very friendly and the food superb. Staff member Christian drove us around in the area on his scooter and arranged a very good masseuse for us. I didn't want to leave...

We had holidays in Villa Manare with young kids, we have been really amazed by the warm welcoming, the perfect taste of our private chief cook and the so beautiful neighborhood.

The pool is so great with an amazing view, you can stay there all day...

We could choose this place to stay there forever :-)

“Beautiful villa in a stunning location”

We stayed here for a week at the beginning of November - the last leg of our whistlestop tour of North Sulawesi Dive locations - Lembeh, Bangka and Bunaken. Instead of staying on Bunaken itself, we wanted to try somewhere that was within easy day trip distance by boat, but not too close to the dirt and grime of Manado. I think this was a very good choice and would recommend it to anyone be they a diver or not.

It was the perfect place to wind down and relax for a few days after a couple of weeks of staying in hard core dive resorts. A peaceful and gentle way to end the holiday in beautiful luxury surroundings where you could do as much or as little as you liked. We were just a couple but had the run of the whole villa, which is equipped to a very high standard with good quality furnishings and appliances. The master bedroom in particular is beautiful, with panoramic views of Bunaken from both bedroom and ensuite bathroom and its own private balcony.

There are numerous comfortable places to sit and eat, both inside and out, with comfortable loungers and wide verandahs to keep you shaded and make the most of the breeze. There is air-conditioning (and a generator to cover the frequent power cuts) but we only used this a couple of times when it got really sticky.
There was no Wifi or landline when we stayed but I believe this is coming soon.

The lovely local staff of four and the owner's father-in-law stay onsite, in a small house behind the villa and pop in and out unobtrusively during the day to clean and fix meals, but if you were keen on more privacy or wanted to fix your own meals I'm not sure how this would work out. I'm sure it could be arranged if you let the owner know. They will also drive you around for a small fee, do laundry and are happy to chat - although their English is very limited (excluding Yani) and our Indonesia was non-existent we managed to communicate fine.

The villa is on a coastal hillside overlong Bunaken Marine Park and is just south of Tanawangko, very near the Minahasa Lagoon Resort. The drive from the airport is around 2 hours, dependent on the traffic going through Manado and there isn't a great deal of other places around if you are looking for alternative eating or entertainment options. This was irrelevant for us however as the staff at the villa fed us well (despite our crazy western dietary foibles) and we didn't feel the need to venture far from the villa as the place and views were so lovely.

My partner dived with the operation recommended by the villa owner - Minaga Divers - but as this was a good half an hour away by car, he felt in retrospect it would have been less hassle to go with Ecodivers, which is within walking distance down the road. There are various other dive options to choose from within 15 -20 minutes drive of the villa including Tasik Ria and Lumbalumba. The diving at Bunaken was fantastic and there are good local reefs too.

The views out across the bay to Bunaken are exactly as in the photos and villa has its own beach and reef which we could see from the house but which we unfortunately did not get to see. The villa is on a steep hill and the beach access is down some fairly deep concrete steps. Unfortunately, I dislocated my shoulder at the beginning of our stay going down the steps and never tried to venture down again…this is an old problem and not the owner's fault, but be careful descending the stairs as they are very steep in places. The villa staff were fantastic about getting me to medical attention quickly and if you are unfortunate enough to need a hospital in Manado at some point then Siloam Hospital in the city centre is very good, modern and of a good international standard - although I hope you never need this!

Altogether it was a lovely stay in beautiful surroundings and with a gracious staff. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to couples or larger family groups and hope that one day we will go back and I will actually get down to see the beach.

“A gentle, perfect, beautiful holiday and we were fabulously well looked after”

Villa Manare is spectacularly located with its own house reef and beach, incredible views and accommodation and living spaces to dream for. Excellent quality and finishes and a beautifully designed villa. The food was delicious, varied and thoughtfully prepared and presented. The family and staff were exceptional and took great care of us. We had quiet space to ourselves and were able to completely relax. We dived off the mainland and Bunaken with Eco-divers who I highly recommend for their guides, instructor, equipment, patience and safety. We had wonderful dives and saw incredible diversity of marine life.
