We recently stayed at the Mission Ranch on a trip up the coast. We found it to be a beautiful location just on the edge of Carmel with nice views of the Carmel River and hills beyond. We were traveling with two teenagers so ironically we got the Honeymoon Cottage. That worked out fine with a bedroom with a king size bed for us and a living room with tv and queen sleeper sofa for them. It was also nice to leave the kids for a bit and walk across the road to the restaurant for a glass of wine and appetizers at the patio overlooking the sheep pasture. After relaxing a while we called the kids to join us for a nice dinner. It is low key and has it's own charm. We stayed there years ago before kids and not much has changed. That is a good thing!

Room Tip: The honeymoon cottage worked well for a family of four as long as the kids don't mind sharing a queen bed. The cottage was also very quiet.

Our stay here was for two nights, which we had booked months in advance - it is really hard to get a room here, probably something to do with the owner being Clint Eastwood.

The accommodation is in small ranch units and they are just perfect. You have everything that you need, including an open fire and views over fields to Carmel Bay. The rooms was really peaceful, even although there were other guests in the same small building.

Our meals were served in the restaurant beside the Piano Bar, the only thing that was bit awkward is that guests could only phone 30 minutes ahead to book a table. For this reason, the turn around times on the tables are quite quick, even although you can see people ' holding out' just in case Clint turns up to play the piano. Breakfast, which is buffet style is served in the Tennis Club and was adequate, but to be honest, after the size of the dinner portions, we weren't really hungry. However, the famous Sunday Brunch is more than adequate. It is huge. The food was fantastic and sipping mimosas in the morning sunshine....bliss.

The grounds are immaculate, Ā there are also tennis courts and a gym. Given the size of the Ranch there is a good selection of machines and equipment. The Carmel Mission is within walking distance, as is the beach and town itself. There is really nothing that I can fault about the Mission Ranch.

And yes, the great man did turn up and for once........I was speechless.

A wonderful unpretentious place to stay, relax and enjoy the wonderful scenery and quiet. Not cheap but well worth avoiding the common hotel/motel. The sheep grazing in the pasture, and the wonderfully maintained garden are shear pleasures. The restaurant is simply wonderful, do not go anywhere else for dinner. After dinner you can sit at the piano bar and listen to music.

Room Tip: Do spend a little more and stay in one of the triplex units overlooking the pasture. I would not recommend the back section of the Main Barn, a bit too shady and too away from the center of things.

Probably one of the best themed places I have ever stayed at. Not cheap but what a wonderful location. Oh the serenity! Do not expect all the razzle dazzle of city motels, this is a piece of history. Clint Eastwood saved the property from condominium development and what a save. Go with a positive mind and you will have one of the best experiences (stay 2 nights and really explore Carmel-by-the-Sea) ever.

Room Tip: The restuarant is well worth a visit - they do not take bookings.

We stayed here again for our anniversary in June. On the southern most edge of Carmel and just west of the historic Mission, this place is probably the most picturesque hotel venue in Carmel. We have stayed in many hotels in Carmel and this is clearly our favorite. Rooms are very comfortable. Ours was upstairs in a triplex cottage with expansive views of the properties meadows (with grazing sheep) and great views of the ocean inlet with the crashing of big waves on the rocks. The restaurant is first class, expansive wine selection, and gourmet food. We saw Clint Eastwood at the restaurant twice during our four day stay (he owns it). What fun! Awesome piano bar for after dinner entertainment!

Room Tip: Cottage triplex, overlooking meadow and coast are the best. Upstairs room is best for both great views and privacy.
