Son and I had a great dinner here. We both had the Kitakata ramen- very good noodle texture and flavorful broth. Also had the fried gyoza and fried chicken appetizers. The gyozas were very good, but the chicken was great- a must order.

Busy at dinner, but the line moves pretty well. If you are willing to sit at the bar, there's usually openings there. Service is efficient, but pleasant. Would definitely go back.

Kitakata Ramen Ban Nai is a popular chain of restaurants in Japan, with nearly 60 locations throughout the country. They currently operate four restaurants in the United States; the Buena Park unit is located on Orangethorpe Avenue just east of its intersection with Western Avenue.

While you can find appetizers, side dishes and rice bowls on the menu, the undisputed star here is ramen. For the uninitiated, there are actually several different types of ramen noodles in Japan. The distinctive characteristics of Kitakata ramen noodles are their flatness, width and curliness. They also have a very chewy texture. Their standard broth is made from pork bones that are cooked for hours, resulting in a flavorful soup that avoids being oily or heavy. Other than their vegetarian ramen (which uses vegetable broth), all their ramen dishes come with chashu (braised pork belly). If you like, you can order extra toppings for your ramen from the menu.

My son ordered the spicy miso ramen (with pork broth, spicy miso, chashu, carrots, green onions, spinach, bean sprouts and cabbage topped with spicy garlic oil), while I opted for their aburi miso ramen (with pork broth, miso, chashu, seaweed, corn, bean sprouts, bamboo shoot and green onion). We also shared an order of excellent pan-fried gyoza. To put it bluntly, we were in ramen heaven! The broth had a wonderful depth of flavor, while the noodles had just the right amount of chewiness. To add to our enjoyment, the dining room was very clean and the service was friendly, efficient and attentive.

NOTE that this is a very popular spot, and the dining room fills up quickly. If you don’t want to wait for a table, try to avoid the prime lunch and dinner hours. For example, my son and I arrived on a weeknight at 5:15 pm and were seated immediately. By the time we left around 6:00 pm the dining room was full and people were waiting outside to be seated. But if you’re a ramen lover, do whatever you can to dine here – it’s that good!

This was recommended by a member of our party and boy was it great. There were 10 couples ahead of us but the time flew by. The parking lot is small but people move pretty fast. This was my first time but it definitely won’t be the last.

Ban Nai ramen uses a thicker curly styled ramen, works well with their soup base. They are famous for giving you large portion of chashu vs other ramen places. Their appetizers are pretty good with good price. The Yuzu sherbet is excellent dessert.

And very good ramen at that. Tooling around looking for lunch. End up in a small strip mall behind a Target. And find Kitakata

Lunch for me - go with the ramen. Started out with Gyoza - nice serving and not too heavy or greasy. Than on to the meal - go with the house standard - Kitakata Ramen. Delicious broth, fresh ramen and pork. Would have given the 5th star. But the pork was really below standard - too fatty and a bit chewy. Just took a little away from the dish.

Very nice service, seating at tables or the ramen bar. Just me, i'm fine at the bar. Fast and friendly service, know their ramen. Very small space, I can see this place getting very crowded for lunch and dinner, I popped in between. Very few parking spaces out front, may have a bit of a stroll through a crowded and poorly organized parking lot. If more than two people, drop everyone off get a table and go find a spot. We'll wait
