I've never been quite so embarrassed! We brought a foreign guest with us to LA to show her the sites, and took her to Mastro's for a drink at the upstairs bar on a recent Monday evening. The restaurant was barely about half-full. As we were getting comfy, the doorman came up and escorted us away! He said we were "out of dress code!" Really??? I'm from the east coast, and we used to get laughed at when we would visit LA and ask if restaurants had a dress code. So, beware! If a MAN is wearing dressy, long shorts and a collared shirt, he is out of dress code, but if a WOMAN is wearing something that barely covers her private parts, she is OK. We've been to every Mastro's location over the years, and we will never, ever go back.

We have eaten hear several times over the years and I have to say I'm not that keen as I find it very noisy and the seating downstairs, well you are far to close to other people.
Having said that my husband really likes this place so we went for a meal last night, well the service in my option isn't that good as far as ordering drinks it's takes to long and it wasn't even busy. The food is very good and the staff are very polite. I have to say I have eaten in better steak restaurants and I wouldn't rush back.

The food was okay. The bread basket was extremely stale but not sure if it's because we came close to the end of the day. We sat upstairs, and it was pretty loud with music and chatting so great if that's what you're into, not so much if you want some quiet.

The food was good but not sure that its worth the price or the hype. Its a very pretentious place in my opinion. its more of a place to be seen that to actually eat....
I do have to say that the warm butter cake smelt and tasted amazing! but your not going there for dessert are you?

I didn't enjoy my meal at Mastro's. Staff were stuffy. We ordered our steak blue and it came out with great blobs of white cold fat in it - inedible. Bottle of Moet as a treat, the cork smelt old but I didn't dare say anything, these waiters didn't want to know. It's very dark, noisy and busy. People must love this place. I didn't and wouldn't go again unless you paid me.
