We were travelling from Phoenix to Angels Camp, CA. Knew I would have to rest overnight as it was at least a 12 hour trip. Figured about 8 hours to Bakersfield, actually took a little over 9 with rest stops, gas, etc., so I chose to book 1 night in Bakersfield. Not looking for anything fancy, just a bed and something to munch on in the morning. I booked a single queen at the Rodeway Inn and Suites for $42. On arrival, my GPS said Chester Ln, the address for the hotel, was between Wendys and Carls Jr. Without that information I would have missed it for sure. The Rodeway is directly behind the Carls Jr and the driveway looked like it was going into the drive thru for Carls. I was a little leery of the place only because of the other Rodeway's I had seen were a little shabby. This one was different, looked modern, you can see nothing but the office from the street. New locks were on the doors and the key was a white credit card sized piece of plastic with nothing written on it. Keys were of the proximity type, just wave it in front of the lock and the green light comes on. Two wings of rooms with elevator access or stairs, 3 floors. You needed the key to enter the hallway to each floor and then the room. On entering the room, it was huge, a double bed, 2 person couch, coffee table, separate writing desk, oversize college dorm fridge, microwave, coffee pot and tv. NO closet, but a rack on the wall to hand shirts, pants from. Looking out the window revealed a nice neighborhood with nice kept yards, and mowed and trimmed, no traffic noise but only 2 blocks to the freeway. Within a 1 block distance were the Wendys, Carls Jr, McDonalds, Pollo Loco, Marie Callenders, and Rubios. A total of 3 gas stations within 3 blocks, so very conveniently located for the traveller. Breakfast was the typical continental type, Only 2 small tables with 2 chairs each. No street noise was heard at all while staying there, also had free wi-fi. Nice quiet, well kept neighborhood. During the ride from here to the final destination, the wife saw several other Rodeway Inns, and they all appeared the same, maybe they are improving, Surely can't beat the price.

I read the reviews and knew this was an older hotel. I don't mind old - but I am not okay w filthy and poorly maintained. Made an online reservation. Arrived at 10:30 pm. The lobby was locked and my husband stood outside for over 20 minutes, completing our reservation by passing forms, credit cards and IDs through a security window. We are gold members of this brand of hotel so they had all of our info and history in the computer - he still was not allowed in the lobby. We requested a luggage cart. The employee rolled it to the back door and sat it outside. By the time he finished registering it was gone (it just disappeared - no other guests arrived) and they were not able to get us another one so we had to wrestle our luggage from the pkg lot to an elevator down a long corridor to our 3rd floor room. Our room had no coffee pot or washclothes. The bathroom light fixture was broken. We requested a 5am wake-up call that we received at 8am. There was a purple gooey thing on the bathroom floor. When I used a bathroom hand towel to pick it up the towel came back covered w long black hair. We requested a late checkout and they could only extend us to noon (normal checkout 11 and we requested 1pm).

The manager called us after we checked out. He was very apologetic and assured us these problems were not the norm and that he hoped we would give them another chance.

If you choose to stay here, don't check in late and inspect the room before you pay!

Definitely in need of a little TLC but its not bad. Our bathroom didn't have very good light and could have used some sprucing up! The bed was comfortable and clean. The place was also pretty quiet so I got a good nights sleep. The location is great with lots of close places to eat and easy highway access. Overall, if your just looking for an inexpensive place to stay then this is a great choice.

Clean room, Daily service was great, and close to fast food. The breakfast was lacking but your so close to many fast food places. This is my second stay here for a conclave and I will continue to stay each year. The area feels safe and I think it is a great place at a great price. Room did have a microwave and a small fridge. And a nice flat screen TV.

Im a locaal of bakersfield and this hotel is located next to all kinds of shops and restraunts. You have lots of shopping stores and a variety of restraunts. The hotel itself is modern and has many rooms with parking under the rooms.
