We were on holiday in Newton Ferrers & decided to go for Lunch as a duo were playing in the afternoon. The pub is small but nice .it would be nice to see the water from the place but alas the person who owns the little house in front has grown plants up so you cannot see.The food was lovely but we felt rushed to order and no one came to see if we wanted dessert(we did but were not asked.) So money was lost as we left after waiting 30 minutes. Cannot fault the food but the service needs work and the guys behind the bar need to leave their phones at home and concentrate on customers .The duo were great and it was free to watch them so who can moan.We visited again on the Sunday for lunch But was disappointed not to see a nice lunch they advertised available. and the young lad behind the bar again using phone and not interacting with customers .

During our week long visit to Newton ferrers, this pub became our regular. It's disorganised, a bit rough around the edges but what is lacking in professionalism is more than made up for in character. We had several false starts..... Missing gigs, missing chefs, food not being served at 6:00pm on a Summers Sunday evening - but there is a charm about the place that I really liked. It's very popular with the locals and what a friendly gang they are. My family was made so welcome and we were warmly included into a team in the Tuesday quiz night and this was great fun. On another ocasdion, entirely of the staff's own accord my mother and I were given extra scones with our cream tea ,(which were home made and warm!) as when we first arrived the chef had left the premises to get more supplies and the Barman was standing in for his sister and didn't know what to do! It's been rather hit and miss but when they get it right, they really do get it right.

Lovely surprise after reading negative reviews. Good service and excellent food (beer battered fish and chips) and a real community feel about it. Lively and welcoming.

No where near enough staff. Lots of frustrated customers. Food late and cold. No idea which beer we drank as the staff were so confused. O dear.
On the plus side , lovely views just don’t arrive with a schedule to do anything else for the day - giving yourself the best shot at actually eating.

Picture says it all. They are in need

We recently stayed at Derrys Cottage and ate at the Dolphin on our first evening and had a lovely meal! We actually ate there on 5 evenings! The staff and locals were just so friendly and the food was amazing! I tried 5 different main meals and they were all superb from the fish and chips to the Thai green curry and the rissoto was to die for! I will definitely be back in my next visit!
