Awesome vacation. We LOVED the dinner restaurants. Vespa (Italian) was our favorite. The buffet is good for breakfast. We liked Munchies for lunch.
The fitness classes are so fun! Aqua Zumba, Aqua Fitness & the Fitness Challenge on the beach were highlights of our day. J Carlos, Favio & Jacob are the best.

My wife and I have just returned from Chic, Punta Cana and absolutely loved the resort and the people. The people made the resort as they were energetic, always smiling and the feeling from us was they really enjoyed their place of work as they were constantly trying to enhance the resort.
I must state, we were in the Diamond Club Area so my comments surround this area.
The initial person I would like to mention is our Butler, David Castillo. This gentleman was a pleasure to deal with. Whatever we required, it was done. David made reservations at the restaurants for us every day. We never had to concern ourselves with this. Our toilet experienced issues and we mentioned this to David and we went to the beach. Two hours later we returned and the issue was solved. My wife is a lover of white wine and happened to mention this to David; that evening, two glasses and a bottle of white wine were chilling in an ice bucket in the room. David was amazing and when next we return, we will ask for the area David is the Butler for.
We booked the swim out room and requested a 'quiet' area. We ended up in Building #3 and we couldn't have asked for more. The swim out room was perfect and we were away from the main pool area; however, within a minute of a walk, we were at the Pool Bar and Munchies Food Area. We just wanted some alone time and this building provided us what we needed.
I have read other reviews where there are not enough activities and I do not know why? Every night at the main bar, there were activities, Saxaphone, electric violin (each playing up to date music) 70's, 80's 90's night had the entire resort in the main bar where there was dancing, people singing and everyone having a great time. There was a party on the beach with music. Great time had by all.
We did not go the pool as we had our swim out room; however, every lunch was provided by Munchies who had the best Chicken wraps, hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, pretty much, whatever you wanted for lunch, they had and there was always as side order of french fries.
The beach is wonderful. Beautiful waves crashing in, a greenish hue to the water colour and all people taking advantage of cooling off on a hot day.
The only negative I have is the beach is not raked so whatever people leave on the beach, stays on the beach. I have been to previous resorts in Punta Cana where the beach is raked everyday so, once again, the sand is soft to walk on.
The restaurants (we visited only the Italian and Hunter's Steak House) were perfect. Fettucine Alfredo, Chicken Parmgiano, Salmon, etc. in the Italian and the steak in the Steak House was fabulous and trust me as I am a very fussy eater. My wife could not bring herself to stay away from the Filet Petite and had it three times and loved each time. Caesar Salad was good; however, I am not used to seeing tomatoes in the salad but it did add colour.
The Main Bar at night was a show in itself. A special thank you to Super Kelvin (makes drinks with the glass on his head as that is the way I did receive my drink one time); Edwardo, Nataly Jhonatan and Joel made the bar a happening spot. Should you not be fortunate enough to be seated at the bar, Rossy will take very good care of you as she always seems to be there when you are thinking you need another drink. She was fabulous.
I wish to thank everyone at Chic Resort for a wonderful holiday and we shall be back!

Room Tip: I can only speak to where we were located which was Building 3

My wife and I have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Chic Punta Cana. It was our first time in the Dominican Republic and we were looking forward to the resort after reading the great reviews. Having stayed at a Royalton hotel before, we had great expectations for Chic as it was smaller than other 5 star rated hotels and potentially offered exclusivity.

We normally choose adult only hotels as it's a way of ensuring maximum peace and quiet.

Our time at the hotel coincided with Canada/US Spring Break and therefore the place was full with youngsters (to us) looking for a great time, which I think they achieved.

On arriving at out room in block #8 it was soon realised that despite paying the extra charge for pre selecting our room it was not on the correct side of the block. After speaking Lenny, who is a credit to the hotel, she was able to secure another room several days later on the correct side of the building .

Our stay was relaxing whilst on the beach, however, once up by the pool it was full of noise and activity which makes for entertainment and giggles.

Positive Points
Staff - With the exception of the Guest Services team, the staff were good, always had a smile on their faces and attended to our needs in a timely fashion.
The physical exercise instructors were magnificent and showed enthusiasm in all their classes and their knowledge of the exercises they taught was comparable to other resorts and gyms. I did like the fact that they would run a class despite only one person attending.

Entertainment - the team were always enthusiastic and did their upmost to get us involved. We would like to mention Shorty as she was fantastic and deserved to be praised for her humour and energy. However, for some reason other entertainment staff didn't engage with us and tended to focus their charm on the younger people at the hotel.
The evening entertainment was of a good standard and the varied performances ensured there was something for all. The DJ played relevant music and for the majority got the tempo right for the bar areas.

Food - Was respectable and we can't think of a time when we had a bad meal. The international gives you plenty of variety with the dishes prepared to a good standard. The fine dining was excellent and the non-reserving of tables saw us only having to wait twice throughout our 2 week stay. The Pettit Fillet Steak in Hunters Restaurant was superb! A recommendation would be to have finger wash bowls on fish nights in the International as this will help diners after eating the superb selection of fish and shell fish offered.

Drinks - There is no faulting on the amount of drinks available and the number of cocktails the bar staff were able to conjure up was great. The bar staff worked relentlessly and deserve a mention as they were busy continuously during our stay but ensured you weren't waiting long at the bar.
The coffee shop is a great addition to the hotel and the ladies serving ensured we were provided with copious amounts of coffee to clear the head from the previous nights partying.

The wireless network was excellent and extended well throughout the hotel and reached down to the beach. Network speed allowed for users to place face time calls which was great.

Negative points

Room issues - The room had several issues (sink leaking from u' bend so water was going onto bathroom floor, the lights on bed were not working, and the shower door stop didn't work so the door would slam shut even with the greatest of care) which were reported on Mon 13 Mar. No action was done so another visit to Customer Services on 20/03 and insisted that the leak was fixed. The leak was eventually fixed after the third complaint but it was only the fact that we were pushing the issue rather than the guest service team resolving.

Noise in blocks - Because the corridors are open and tiled, any noise was carried further so those returning to their rooms could easily be heard. We are not particular light sleepers but the door locking mechanisms could even be heard as the door could not be closed quietly so there was a constant noise of doors slamming throughout the night. And as some guests showed no consideration (shouting, doors slamming, loud music) the block did resemble a halls of residence at a university at times.

Block #8 Concierge - we are still confused as to his duties because apart from a few mumbled good mornings and good evenings he didn't really engage with us and preferred to spend his time on the phone. It would have been nice of him to take an interest and ask if there were any issues and could he be of assistance.

Hotel beach front - We always choose a hotel with a beach as we prefer sand to concrete. I'm sorry to say the cleanliness of the beach is way below par to other hotels. The sand is full of plastic bottle tops, straws and cigarette butts. There was even broken glass next to the entrance onto the beach.

Sun bed blocking - As in many hotels sun bed reserving is rife and despite stating it on notice boards Chic management did not enforce their policy. It was not uncommon to see people place towels down at 0600hrs and not actually return until midday. This lead to people not having beds and some friction between guests which shouldn't have occurred if the hotel did what it stated.

When returning from days trips we engaged the staff around the pool to see if they could find us beds but each time they didn't do anything to secure beds. However, it was observed when Diamond members requested assistance the staff jumped into action and found beds, by removing and parasols. It was a case of looking at the persons wristband and only helping the Diamond club members.

Not enough parasols and beds with pads - with the need to get out of the midday sun its vital that all guests have access to parasols but there wasn't enough for all guests. And many beds didn't have pads which should be the case at a 5 star hotel.

The Dress code was not enforced - Dress codes where mentioned on the hotel booking web site, as well as on the room TV , and on every entrance to restaurants. With all those notifications you would of thought that the standard was known to all, and those that failed to meet the standard would be denied entry to the restaurant. Staff didn't enforce this, so it wasn't unusual for ourselves to dress appropriately only to find yourself next to someone in a T-Shirt and base ball cap. This may be perfectly acceptable to some, but not for all and Chic set dress standards which it failed to implement. We have travelled widely and find that guests do normally respect the hotels standards as no one likes rejection and they pack clothes to meet hotel standards. To be honest, if we knew that anything goes we wouldn't have bothered with our booking at Chic.

Also 5 star hotels don't allow men to be without shirts in the bar areas at night. Its not great looking at bare chested blokes whilst woman have dressed up. It was all rather disappointing and at no time were the young men asked to put their shirts back on. Standards Chic!

Dinning - Another first for us was the lack of cutlery in the fine dining restaurants. Only one set was placed on the table and after your starter you were asked to keep the dirty cutlery on your side plate for the next course. Bed and Breakfast guest houses don't even do this so why Chic?

Vendors - a couple of days a week local vendors set up their stalls alongside the main bar and lobby area. Without doubt these sellers were the pushiest vendors I have ever met within a hotel. They were rude and we even witnessed them following those needing cash from the ATM to purchase goods,(they would stand right outside the small, glassed bank area just in case they didn't return to buy goods from them!!). Chic Management need to step in here and brief the sellers not to pester and force their stores on hotel guests.

Summary
This review is based purely on our observations. We did hear that the hotel will make you sign a waiver to not post negative reports on social media should they upgrade you to Diamond Status after raising an issue with them. Hearing about this has now made us wonder how true are the reviews on Trip Advisor, and how many other Hotels are doing this? It's obvious the hotel is all about reviews and bookings as there are many hotels with similar good reviews in Punta Cana.
The hotel is a great at partying so be sure that's what you are looking for as there are very few areas at the hotel that you can get away from the pool area noise and activity.
Be aware of being 'sold' an upgrade to Diamond club. We were told it should be around $100 extra a night, yet another couple who arrived at the same time as us for a fortnight was told they could do it for $800 total!! I really don't know why we were given such differing costs?
Chic, if you have policies, then your guests expect you to enforce them. Based on vacations at different hotels and findings of our 2 week stay we would classify the Chic Royalton at no more than a 4 Star hotel.

As we await the customary familiar reply from Chic management I will say that we met some really great people during our stay but the service lacks at time and its for that reason we would not return to the hotel nor we'd recommend it if you are looking for a relaxing break.

Bye for now

Room Tip: Nearer the road away from central area as too noisy

Dear AlMac_UK,

We have been honored with you having chosen our resort in Punta Cana and we appreciate your feedback on some important points to improve. It is indeed only through the opinion of our visitors that we can achieve excellence.

We lament our resort's atmosphere at that time of the year did not suit your preference and it was not what you were looking for. Our main objective is to offer supreme experiences to our guests, and we are sorry to hear we haven't achieved this with you.

Our Maintenance Department works continuously in the condition of our rooms; they follow strict procedures of maintenance in order to give rooms fully functional and also scented, fresh and pleasant. Accept our apologies for the complications you've dealt with and your impressions of our guest service team.

We extend our sincere apologies for the inconveniences that you have had with the service in some of our restaurants and bars. We continuously train our collaborators in order to give an excellent service to our visitors and we take very seriously the points you address regarding the dress code and the lack of cutlery that you've encountered.

As of the sun-beds blocking, we are very strict with the 20 minutes occupancy policy and we are truly surprised to read about your experience as this is not a standard situation at our hotel.

Accept our apologies for the bad time that the vendors may have caused you. We'd like you to know that the hotel does not consider the conduct you've described as acceptable.

We understand we might not be able to recover your confidence, but in case you decide to visit us again it would be our honor to welcome you again and make sure you enjoy the superior services and facilities that you deserve.

Warm regards,

Paulina Chahin

My husband and I celebrated our honeymoon in Punta Cana at the Chic Resort. We were greeted upon arrival with our welcome drink and taken to the check-in area for the Diamond Club. Our butler, Johan was great! He helped us with anything we needed. We had never experienced the butler service before, so it was very nice to have him take care of our requests for restaurant reservations, special room decorations, and spa treatments. Johan was friendly, helpful, and made our requests happen. He was great and spoiled us, because now I don't want to travel without someone like Johan! :) Miguel that works with Johan was great, as well. He welcomed us each morning and afternoon with a friendly smile and helpful attitude.

The restaurants had great food! We thoroughly enjoyed the Italian restaurant and the Hunter steakhouse, and if you can take advantage of a getting a cabana at the pool, do it! Jose was fun, friendly, and helped with making the relaxing around the pool even better. Food and drinks, while relaxing...yes, please! The Culinary Experience was great as well. Though it was an extra cost, the detail of the 6 courses and how to enjoy them was a nice way to enjoy a little more special evening. Rocia was very friendly and made us comfortable throughout the dinner.

The resort isn't big so you run into a lot of the same people throughout the day at the beach area, pool area, restaurants, etc. We met great people that we are are now connected with when we return home.

We went to a martini making class which wasn't at all a class. It was everyone getting poured a drink and the bartender telling us what was in it. Very uneventful. We didn't take advantage of the activities like we wanted due to planning excursions, so I'm not sure if the other activities were better. Also, they ran out of premium alcohol frequently so that was disappointing, but we had a great time regardless.

We met Cesar who was part of the TravelSmart vacation program. While these aren't for everyone, we made a friend in Cesar just from the way he treated us and listened to our vacation needs.

Overall, this was an amazing honeymoon! It was a relaxing, beautiful, and fun trip and we will never forget it! Many thanks to the Chic staff that took care of us during our visit!

Room Tip: Get the room with swim out access. They are really nice!

This was an incredible trip the Punta Cana in DR. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and my birthday. The weather was really great, only had 1 cloudy day, with 5 min of rain and then sunny for the rest of our trip. The reason our experience was so great is because of our stay at Chic Resort. Its a very modern and beautiful resort with many options to choose from in terms of entertainment. They have different themes practically every night. We mostly enjoyed the masquerade night. Professional models and dancers were scene around the resort throughout the day and night. It was a very cool. Our most memorable part of our stay at the resort was the attention we received from the staff. We were particularly pleased with Raimy. He is definitely an asset to the company. He went above and beyond to make sure our stay was eventful and exciting. He also helped us address some concerns with the location of our room to get to a higher floor, even though the resort was at max capacity. It took about 10 mins for him to find a solution for us. That is why we will request to have him welcome us back when we return next year. If you every go to Punta Cana, go to Chic Resorts and ask for our new friend Raimy, he’s the best.
