“A wonderful place to stay in a beautiful village”
Reviewed 27 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

This luxury railway station conversion is lovely, the owners have tried to keep the features of the station. They have thought of everything and you will have a lovely time here. You have a number of trains stopping daily (of course!) and are only 15 minutes from Skye by car. Plockton is so beautiful and is one of Britain's best kept secrets. There are great walks from the station all over the Balmacara estate through ancient pine forests to iron age forts, duns and crannogs.

“Unique and wonderful”

With the onset or mobility issues combined with becoming a little older our travelling has become a liitle more predictable with travel by car, comfortable mobility suitable self catering accommodation and a nice location being amongst the main criteria.

After covering most of the popular global destinations we now settle for the Scottish Highlands as our preferred destination as we are never happier than when amongst hills and mountains.

Having read many positive reviews of this property we booked our stay with no hesitation and what a good decision it was. I have no difficulty in recommending this place to everyone.

I do not intend to list all the positive points that have all been covered in both the client and journalistic reviews and available for all to read from many sources but to merely repeat my heading that this unique property was a wonderful place to stay.

“Perfect Peace and Quiet”
Reviewed 18 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

20 years ago I watched Hamish MacBeth and found out where it was filmed. I eventually got here and it's breath taking. I was looking for something unique and quirky and I found it.

I had no idea the station building had been bought and had been converted into very comfortable self catering accommodation so when we arrived, my father and me, we both smiled and chuckled: it was just what we'd been looking for. It didn't disappoint.

The owner arrived to give us a tour and the history of the place and it was very interesting. They live in the village, about a 15 minute pleasant walk away (or a 5 minute drive) so you're assured that if there is an issue they are on hand to help.

The welcome pack is substantial and I didn't expect this at all - milk, wine, bread, crisps, dip, butter, tea, coffee, juice, miniature packs of cereal ... really it's enough for breakfast next day without worrying at all.

The place itself is charming - all wood panelling, working fires with some wood / coal supplied and very comfy chairs and a sofa. A big dining kitchen and free wifi meant that we could have internet radio via the iPad.

One bedroom has an ensuite that has a sauna in it but we didn't use it. Big bathroom though. The other bedroom is a self contained unit - a lobby off the lounge to the bedroom and a very nice shower room.

It's a working station but the trains don't bother you - or at least they didn't disturb us. It's fin to watch the trains come in and the people look at you in wonder. We waved, they waved back.

The heating is very powerful so not to worry if you feel the chill, big radiators warm up the whole place very very quickly. Believe me - my octogenarian father was never cold.

We're going back later this year. It won't be the last time either.

“Truly unique!”
Reviewed 16 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We were so lucky to be able to get a booking here at the last minute. Thank you Jennie for organising it for us! We chose to stay in lovely Plockton for a few days while doing the north coast 500 route, although its slightly off the track - it was definitely worth the detour. To start off the drive there from Loch Ness was probably one of the nicest parts of the whole drive. The road goes through some stunning scenery and past Eilean Donan Castle which is right next to Plockton and it's also perfectly located for a day trip to the Isle of Skye and on to Applecross. Plockton itself is picturesque and lovely to walk around.

Now on to the best part...off the rails! We often look for unique places to stay, and I have to say this was up there with the best! It was much bigger than we thought and the pictures really do not do it justice. It was immaculately clean, beautifully presented and had some really cute train themed signs and finishing touches. The kitchen was fully equipped and easy to use, dishwasher was a bonus! There is a sauna which is a great touch after a cold day out and really easy to use. The fire was lovely, DVD player in the bedrooms were great too. I was worried about train noise, but they run really infrequently and none overnight (first was 6.30am), and they were a novelty that we loved watching come by. Jennie was a lovely host to deal with and met our every need. There was a tip in the welcome book to get fresh fish from the village on a thursday which we did and loved. I have already recommended this place to all of my friends and we will definitely be back for much longer next time!

We stayed at this unique holiday location for a week in March and weren't disappointed. The accomodation is top quality with all the home comforts and more packaged up inside a charming, historical building that oozes character. Thank you for the 'welcome' basket and little extras that made our celebration stay so memorable!
