We stayed at Quinta Roja during a particularly bad weather pattern and thus that does have some effect on my review, but a hotel is for 365 days of a year, not just the sunny ones!

The hotel is a beautifully restored old building on the main square in this lovely little town. We had worried that there might be ambient noise from the square, but this was not so. There is a clock that strikes every half hour, but it only works between 7am to 11pm and so all is silent at night. Apparently many restrictions have been put upon the hotel’s rebuild. We had what should have been a marvellous room on the second floor with a double aspect: 203. Only the top 1/3 of the windows on the side of the town square has any glass, everything else is old, traditional wooden shutters. Beautiful structures but sadly they did not keep out the wind which howled through the room on our first few nights. We had to keep these shutters taped and closed for the majority of our stay which meant the room was extremely dark, cold and depressing. The only lighting came from the bedside lamps and 3 low voltage lamps. We were provided with another but this did absolutely nothing to help the general ambience or overall light level in the room. Naturally we discussed this with the manager who could not understand our distress. Of course she has no responsibiltiy for the weather but the subsequent dreariness of the room is not our fault! Whenever we returned to our room throughout our stay the shutters had been closed, scanty curtains drawn and the insignificant lights switched on. Fine in hot weather perhaps but simply depressing during our stay. We loved the wood work and ceilings, but just felt that modern technology and a good interior lighting design could have improved things considerably whilst still keeping the style.
There were several other factors generally found in 4* hotel that we discussed with the manager including the very basic toiletries provided (some were even labeled “basic”), provision of only 3 coffee pods per visit- we were staying a week and felt this was penalizing us, however after discussion we did get 2 per day, poor hair dryer (which I am convinced will be changed when bathrooms are updated). The beds are two singles placed together: not zipped or with a topper which would help tremendously. I am aware that several guests moaned amongst themselves about this; few people dare to be truthful, but if no one complains nothing can be changed. The breakfast room was as dark as our bedroom. There is a pleasant outdoor seating area but the weather did not encourage one to go out there; indoors the lighting, again, was extremely poor. This might have proved a romantic evening setting but it was not appropriate at breakfast time. The bar area was extremely underused as there was no atmosphere.
So much potential in this hotel, but please listen to your guests!! Some of us are extremely well travelled and also experienced in many business aspects. I am fully aware that sunny, bright days would have put us all in a better frame of mind, but a hotel is for all seasons even on Tenerife! First impressions count tremendously.

We chose Quinta Roja for our first ever 'winter sun' holiday and it provided everything we could have wanted - great comfort and style, lovely breakfasts, helpful staff and a central position within this wonderful little town. A very useful innovation is the loan of a small 'tablet' which is incredibly helpful when out walking or checking local details.

The hotel is perfectly placed for the wide range of restaurants, bars and cafes within a short distance and a great base for exploring this lovely area on foot and by bus. Rooms are lovely and there are wonderful "hidden corners" all round the beautiful building.

Room tip: We stayed in a suite - spacious and beautifully equipped.

This is one of those hotels which are their own little world. Housed in a beautiful bold traditional Canaries building with original stone staircase and a breathtaking courtyard, everything about this hotel says relaxation and comfort.

I stayed on the top of the two floors, with a perfect view of the main square. I have read comments on here about people being disturbed by noise in the square but I had no such problems. The square was deserted by 10:30pm and quiet all night. In fact, I slept exceptionally well.

The breakfast buffet is large, fresh and imaginative.

Having a drink in the courtyard area at the end of the day was a really special experience.

The service is outstanding and personal.

I felt really sad to leave and will be back.

Following the tips of LaCasaDeVegeta where I was staying in LasPalmas I booked a stay at LaQuintaRoja and have not been disappointed at all.
Perfect location in Garachico, you get an amazing view from the room 205 which brings you to the past.
Breakfast is a large buffet of good products.
The staff is smily and helpful to make you have a nice stay with good tips to travel around.
I really recommend this place which offers also free access to a sauna and a fitness room on the rooftop.

Room tip: Suite 205 and the one on the same side overviewing the square of the monastery has a special soul.

This is a town centre hotel with no parking as it was originally a lord's mansion, a historic property with all that implies. The renovation is beautiful with lots of character. The parking in the town was easy to find very near to the hotel, at least in January, might be more difficult in peak season. We loved this place. We had a ground floor room which was quite small but comfortable and a large bathroom in which everything worked perfectly. I had asked for a quiet room, and we had a window onto the side street which was indeed quiet. Upper floor rooms might be larger, but cost more. We enjoyed drinks in the courtyard, lovely service, also very friendly and efficient at reception, with some good advice about our next stop. There is a sun deck with Jacuzzi, but it is very small, if you want some water and sun, better go to the beachfront natural pools. Breakfast was great, really Spanish and genuine, changing specials every day, I disagree with the reviewer who said hot food should be offered - that's not what the locals eat. Instead they gave us potato tortilla, cheesy-tomato bread pieces, fresh cakes and other local treats along with a good selection of fruit, fresh breads, meats, cheeses, tomato etc. The town is lovely too, with excellent restaurants. A great base for exploring the north of Tenerife.

Room tip: Ask for what you want - view of the town or internal room.
