In the words of my wife, the food "was not mind-blowing, but was well prepared". The owners have creatively carved out a "niche atmosphere" with the displayed art, and the Tuesday night program of live music followed by the half-hour of "Tales from the South" storytelling. We had made reservations for an August 2013 Tuesday; the seating area was close to 100% full. For TFTS, arrive by 6:15. We (who are out of state) hope to make repeat visits.

Make a point to be at the Starving Artist Café on a “Tales of the South” night (the first Tuesday of each month). The food is fine, but it’s the experience of hearing writers read their own compositions that makes this event so memorable.

These are memoirs, not tall tales, that can be touching, funny and emotional all in the space of a few minutes. What I heard was an unlikely mix of a story about a boy, his dog and Hurricane Katrina, another about the harrowing life of a goldfish and another about a teacher-led exorcism.

Looking for an interesting place for lunch in North Little Rock, I stumbled-upon Starving Artist Cafe. A cup of chicken creole soup was ordered as a starter; penne pasta with shrimp and calamari was the main course. The food was fine and the service prompt and friendly.

Yes, can be a noisey and busy place for dinner but that is needed sometimes. We were able to get in the evening of the Fleetwood Mac concert so we were glad that they took our reservation at late notice. The service was great. Our food was very good. Used to go to their old LR location for lunch. It is nice to see downtown NLR with various dinner options. They had several good soup options the night we were there.

Have finally set aside time to attend the Tuesday night radio show of Tales of the South this past week. How delightful the music and the storytelling is better than ever trying one of those audio books. Next time in North Little Rock on a Tuesday night, tune in and take up a seat at Starving Artist Cafe, and it's great for lunch too! Not too mention you could find a new work of Art for your house or office!
