Stay was ok. Food needed variety. Staff was very friendly. Room was clean. Beach was awesome. When we called about the shuttle we were told it was $30 for two ppl to and from the airport. We decided to take a taxi instead. Driver told us $25, but when we got there he didn’t want to give us all our change back. He took $5 extra and said, “that’s tip for your driver”. The manager asked him how much he initially said, and he lied and said $30 so the manager let him go. When we were leaving we were told by a hotel staff member that it was $35. The Gentleman only told us $30 after we said that’s not what they told us when we called. We honestly felt hustled. We didn’t get the impression that ppl on the island were very honest.

We stayed in the junior oceanfront suite, and it was absolutely amazing! Views were amazing and bedroom and bathroom were beautiful. Waking up to the sound of the ocean was very relaxing, and the room was kept very clean our entire trip.

After reading a lot of bad reviews on the Occidental, I was a little leary about our trip but over all, it was good.
We went the Tuesday of March Break.
The worst part of our trip was the beginning, arrival at the airport was absolutely ridiculous. 6 planes came in around the same time, it took 3 hours in line to get to the bus. You’d think they would be more prepared, knowing the plane schedule.
The hotel is very well kept, rooms are great and spacious, except for not having a bathtub. We were in building 16, a little noisy when the show at the theatre was going on.
Entertainment during the day is kind of lacking, we only checked out one show at night which was ok.
Food was kind of hit and miss. We mostly had breakfast and lunch at the beach, which is the seafood restaurant at night.
The pizza down at the beach is excellent and Kenol is a great pizza chef, making whatever pizza you like with a smile and conversation.
The Italian restaurant was excellent, steakhouse not so much.
We had no one from time shares bother us at all, we did not upgrade to VIP so maybe that’s why. We did not feel treated any differently other than at the beach, we tried to get a drink at the bar, not knowing it was VIP. Why not have lower grade alcohols to serve rather than say no? No one else was even there.
The wifi I think was a rip off. We paid $50, were told we can use between 2 cellphones but ended up only working on one phone. I personally think it should be included.
The beach is beautiful, and yes there are vendors, a simple no thank you or sit closer to the trees or back from the ocean and they don’t bother you.
Our biggest mistake was going on the Saona Island excursion, do not waste your time or money!
We were told a 45 min bus ride, it was 2 hours one way, crammed on a speed boat, on an island for 3 hours with nothing to do, the beach at the resort is nicer, then on the catamaran back to the bus which was the only good point.
Wasted 11 hours of our last full day. Very disappointed.
We have been on about 20 all inclusives, been to Dominican about 5 times, this resort was good, potential to be great. No major complaints.

This resort is great if you like noise constantly. The rooms are so tight together and there must be thousands of them. You can touch your neighbor if they are out on their balcony. The layout is perfect for echoing voices and sounds in the concrete corridors, which is most noticeable when you are trying to have a nap or go to sleep at night. Even the resorts are tightly packed. My room’s balcony in block 5 overlooked a pathway but was adjacent to a neighboring resort on the side they had their nightly entertainment. No sleep before their show is over—usually not til 11. There are also lights on every balcony which you can’t switch off (they are on til midnight) , therefore you cannot have your patio door open at night— you are forced to have your AC on and the curtains closed. Loud music all day long at the beach, the pools and in the lobby. When I was here the place was full of young partiers similar to spring break. Lots of floaties in the pool at the end of the day! There were long line ups for coffee in the morning and just one person making it! And not even open until 8:30. Imagine— a resort this size! This place reminds me of Las Vegas. Casino and all. It is so large it takes forever to get around too. So much walking. The food is comparable with what you would get at a 4 star resort in Cuba, 3 star anywhere else. Disappointing. Even the a la Carte restaurants are marginal. Had to go to the buffet after just to get enough to eat. The gym has some OK choices for equipment, but everything is quite old and doesn’t appear all that clean. And the sheets on the beds are polyester. And I got red flags every single day at the beach. Seriously folks, I'm not sure how this place got its stars... I am exhausted and extremely frustrated. Just wanted a relaxing vacation to rest and ended up being even more tired when I left! Brutal!

It’s important for us to start off saying that we are not ones to complain. In fact, this is our first time writing a review. We felt as though we had to because if I were to read this before departing I would have thought twice. This was our 7th all-inclusive trip and our 2nd time choosing Dominican. Maybe we had high expectations considering we paid A LOT OF $ and plus our first trip to Dominican (Bahia Principe) was the best of all trips.
Pros: This resort was very well maintained. The grounds were beautiful. The trees and flowers were very well kept. We also found that everywhere was very clean. Our room was clean, the pool, restaurants and the beach was somewhat clean. The food was good. It was the same every day but good.
Cons: Once we finished checking in, a gentleman took both our luggage’s and escorted us to our room. We hadn’t yet converted our money to US and so when we offered him a couple toonies, he shrugged his shoulders and said “no, paper only”. He was rude about it and seemed angry. We felt degraded.
Within 2 hours of checking in, someone stole my glasses and towel. You must pay $20 if you lose your towel but I thought I should at least try and see if they would give me another considering I just checked in. They said quote “just go and steal someone else’s towel”. I would never do that.
We were constantly turned away because we weren’t “VIP guests”. In the restaurant we were told that we can’t sit there and don’t touch that, don’t drink that. I’m not sure how many bars were on the beach, but we were turned away from all of them because we had a blue wristband (not VIP). This made us feel very unwelcomed and devalued.
The restaurants that take only reservations were not that impressive. The only seafood served at the seafood restaurant was fish. I was also saddened that there was no sushi at the oriental restaurant (personal preference, but you’d expect it).
When on the beach my bf and I were taking a pic of ourselves and one of the Dominicans ran up and offered to take a pic of us. Wow! So nice of him. He demanded $20 afterwards. Said he will be back tomorrow and will look for us.
We tried to nap on our first day due to being a little jet lagged and were abruptly awakened by hammering and banging from above. We complained, and it stopped thank god.
We found most of the staff to be rude. Never did they smile. Looked like they hated their life.
The breakfast buffet restaurant closes at 10:30 am, and one morning we were there at 10:15 am. We loaded up our plates and just sat down. My bf first had to first use the washroom which is located just outside the restaurant. 10:31, they wouldn’t let him back in. Luckily, I was sitting near a window and could see him trying to explain that he was there prior to them closing and he just had to use the facilities. They didn’t care. Didn’t even say sorry. Just looked at him obscenely and said: NO. I got up and left my full plate there too. I couldn’t believe their behavior.
Lastly, the housekeepers. We get up at 6 am every day and were so looking forward to sleeping in finally. Not possible at this resort. We would hear persistent banging starting from 8am-10am. I think it was the door to the supply closet closing very loudly. We probably heard that 20 times minimum in that small window. We asked them politely if they could stop but I don’t think they could understand us. Also, why must they talk so loudly to each other? For heaven’s sake, talk quietly it’s 8 am, people are sleeping. And why must their walkie-talkies be up to the max? That was very bothersome. We asked to speak to the manager but were being shuffled from one person to the next. Finally, Mercedes Garcia claimed to be a manager (later found out she wasn’t) said she would investigate the matter for us. Said she would call us every day to see if the noise has lessened. She never called us once. A couple days later we spoke to someone named Juan. We asked for the manager and got him. We pleaded him to tell the housekeepers to stop banging the door and talking so loudly. He seemed so nice and assuring. Said he would personally go and talk to them. It never got better. Seemed as though it got worse and the glares we got from the housekeepers was appalling.

Room tip: Housekeepers will wake you up early
