Disappointing service and average food; no special services or accommodations for honeymoon

I came to this resort in 2017 and wanted to take my wife on our honeymoon here because it was so great in 2017. The resort has been physically maintained well, and the pool and beach are still great. But the service has become painfully disappointing since my last stay.

Private transfer to the resort from the airport was disorganized and slow (stuck standing in the airport chaos for 30-45 minutes before we talked to someone). Premium check in was super disappointing and took forever (45+ minutes before we finally got to our room). Food was sub-par, especially at the buffet. I am genuinely concerned about the food temperature, because a lot of it was sitting at what seemed like 80-100 degrees, which could be very unsafe. Room service was much better. Pool and beach was excellent. Room was very nice and the housekeeping was good. But very poor service at the buffet and at most of the reservation restaurants and the premium lounge. Half the time we could not even get water or drinks at the buffet when we sat down. We also got zero special accommodations for our honeymoon (we also booked the most expensive suite and ordered the "honeymoon package") other than a basic fruit and pastry breakfast. Overall extremely disappointed with the service and food quality for the price. Wish we would have gone elsewhere for our once in a lifetime honeymoon trip.

Happy all around.

The hotel was very nice and pretty. Everything is kept clean. the designs of the room and buildings are very pretty. The beds are comfortable. I really like that every night the ashtrays on top of the trash cans are cleaned and the sand is raked and stamped with the logo. I think that is showing of how the grounds are kept clean. The excursions were fun and the staff was very nice and helpful. The employees there are very nice and helpful. There are many activities at the resort to do everyday. For example they have Zumba on the beach. They have music at night and employees will dance and try to bring the energy. They have pool tables, and ping pong tables. The beach is beautiful and I believe is is raked every morning. I really enjoyed my stay it was so relaxing and well worth the money

Room tip: The pool chairs get taken quickly so you should grab a spot early but the ones on the beach are easy to find.

Wonderful experience

The lounge chairs are very comfortable and staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Pools are clean and comfortable, lounge areas are kept clean and tidy. Vibes are excellent with a wonderful uproar when staff does activities. Gorgeous views, wonderful food, and excellent service!

Room tip: pool seats fill super quick so get there early, drinks are a bit lighter than normal so you can sip all day! Casino is extremely fun!

Definitely worth every penny

Franyer was excellent! Dominican Chris Brown was excellent! Great service, very cordial, everything is Clean. Beautiful hotel, great food, great drinks!! This is my third time visiting this hotel and it never disappoints. Most beautiful place to relax

Not worth the money

Although Dominican Republic is a beautiful tourist destination, Barcelo is not the place to stay if you’re looking to feel your money is being well spent. Food is average, service is poor, and most of the good stuff is extra pay. If you are going, word of advice: food is better on the adults only side, and DON’T make reservations at the Japanese restaurant; they’ll feed you 3 hours after your set hour.

Great place for a relaxing week

The stay at Barcelo Bavaro Beach was amazing. A huge resort as you get access to the palace side as well. My biggest issues was house keeping waking us up every morning between 8-9am just to see how many occupants were in the room. This is something that they should have record of already or be checking at a later time as we are on vacation we would like to sleep in
