Colourful and fun place steps away from Alicia beach

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Nov 2019
Happy to have found this place, walked in and saw a few rooms. Picked room on second floor however it only had a double bed for 3 of us (including a four year old). Staff were friendly and tried to accomodate us by bringing in an extra cot at no charge. Unfortunately, the cot was in bad condition so just placed the mattress on the floor and husband slept there. Room was clean, ac amazing, tv had lots of kid channels. We liked the small balcony to relax and eat. In the evening, 4 yr old enjoyed swimming in pool and seeing wild rabbits to come out and play.

Also, a jem of a beach is down the road at Alicia beach. Small but family friendly and away from all the tourists and ladies of the night.

There's something at the El Ranchero that reminds me of cheap motels I remember from the '70's. There is a tackiness to the place and its cinder block construction that makes me want to rate it lower, but it is really kind of charming. There are colorful bas reliefs everywhere, bright colors break up the monotony and the restaurant is not bad either. I'm giving them a bonus star here for the two white rabbits wandering around the pool area, just waiting to lead the way for Alice when she finally shows up in Sosua.

We have been wanting to go here for a while. Well, we were not disappointed. It is so incredibly cute. Service was ok, but the food was really good. We both had a special. I had the Yellow curry chicken my husband had the meatloaf, Brussel Sprouts, mashed potatoes and gravy. Yumm

This hotel is clean and close to core of city by walking distance. I stayed in in this hotel between 13 mar - 23 Mar 2018.

I booked double room with terrace in booking.com and paid extra for this . I detailed that as note I want room in high floor with view. However, receptionist Carlos gave me room in first floor without window! I said I booked double room and can't state room without window. He tried convince me it was very good room! Then he showed another standard room in second floor with window. I took it. He regretted this room was standard because all double rooms took already later. My room's exposure is to street, there was a lot noise from street and bar across room. Almost no insulation in walls. I can't sleep some nights. I told receptionist situation, he again offered me room in first floor without windows. Hotel 's owner is German with Costarican wife, hotel is like German club. What I noticed was Germans had privilege in hotel. They were given best room in hotel. Sound to me non German are not very welcome in this hotel. I felt alien when went restaurant among them, not friendly approach at all, Even I said hello they replied barely, is this german way I don't know. I had an unhappy and uncomfortable moment in hotel. It was last day in hotel Iwas waiting my flight, late night, in hotel's restaurant . I had my dinner, after dinner I wanted enjoy my last cigar. There 2 table with client beside me. They were senior couples and probably just restaurant clients. We had quite distance between me and them. One guy I saw him sometimes in hotel with his German fellows came to restaurant . he stared me he just went inside kitchen and he made some signs with angry and disrespectful face. First I didn't get it then I noticed he meant don't smoke with ugly body language. I went through him and asked him who.is he. He said directly don't smoke I asked smoking is not allowed? he said cigar in dinner time is not good. I told him why he didn't come to.my table introduce himself and tell me this, instead make freak signs and gestures. This guy , whoever is, one of waitress told me he is one of boss, made an unhappy time for in this stay before leaving. I condemn him.

We stopped in for a family lunch. The waitress suggested roladen. We shared one between us. Generous portion and delicious! Creamed cabbage, coleslaw, yummy mashed potatoes and big roladen.
Nice cold beer. Could have used some more fans blowing but we werent moving around so it was ok. Prices decent.
We looked around and considered staying here next trip.
Free wifi was nice.

I stayed here for approximately two weeks in October of 2016, I was really impressed with Hotel El Rancho & enjoyed my stay. Food at restaurant is excellent, you will do well do find better food in Sosua! I would highly recommend this Hotel and would stay here again if in Sosua. I would be pretty confident in saying that this would be the best hotel in Sosua for $45-$55 per night!
