The oldest date the site would let me choose for my stay was June 2018 but my stay was actually in early September 2015. I just happened to be looking on this site as I'm thinking of returning. And figured I should write a review.
That stay was my first time out of the country (U.S). It was for humanitarian work; specifically a clean water project. (If you have a second, go check out Humankind Water - amazing company and the company I was out there with.
Anyway, I thought the room was perfectly fine. I didn't really pay attention to the dated things, even though noticing stuff like that is part of my job as a real estate appraiser. I shared a room with another volunteer. Can't speak for her bed but mine was comfortable. I appreciated the air conditioner. My room overlooked the pool which was nice, but I honestly didn't spend much time in the room. When we arrived, each bed had a washcloth or something that has been shaped into a swan. That was really sweet and the gesture made me smile. I think I only went in the pool only once over the whole stay. The pool water was grossly warm (I mean, the Dominican Republic can get pretty hot), but it was still nice and relatively clean. At that time, the pool was only steps away from the sandy beach and ocean. And the ocean water was amazing. Plus it is a private beach and there were almost no other guests at the time. So my group had everything to ourselves! My package included food and beverages (including alcohol), and their outdoor bar was so nice. Specifically, the 2 bartenders I remember were extraordinarily pleasant. Especially the young woman (I forget her name). But she was lovely to talk to. They must have changed around the food menu since I was there. They did have hot food for every meal (some made to order), but it was mostly American food which bummed me out. I had hoped to try authentic Dominican foods. Based on the recent reviews, it sounds like they are now serving that at times. I didn't sleep well while I was there (I can't sleep well anywhere away from home). So I deeply appreciated that they put out coffee at 5/5:30am every morning. The coffee is fantastic by the way. And the milk/cream they provide is warm. Which made it the best coffee I've ever had!
During the day there were a few vendors selling things at the entrance to the beach. They were incredibly polite. There is also a guy (I forget his name) who roams around; his job is basically to provide or connect you with whatever touristy things you want to do. But if you're interested in snorkeling, I would suggest going next door to the shed/cabin at the public beach. They take groups out on a boat and stop at several different great snorkeling spots. It's cheap and they provide you with the mask, snorkel, life vest, and flippers. All in all I was extremely pleased with the hotel and I'm trying to go back soon!
