“Wow....just keeps on getting better!!!”
Reviewed 8 January 2011

We returned to the Casa Veintiuno at the end of November 2010 and unfortunately, due to an emergency family situation, we had to leave early. Being the true stars who they are, Saskia and Marc were compassionate, understanding and truly humane about the way they supported us. They were truly incredible. See.....that's the difference between staying in a big huge all inclusive and staying in an amazing little sanctuary like the Casa. Marc and Saskia have earned our trust and our loyalty! We are returning in February 2011 but were only able to book 6 days as our flights just won't work on the days that are open! To compensate and ease the pain, I have also rebooked for November 2011 for 10 days! There is really nothing else to add to my review from Dec 2009 (apart from the fact that the weather was IMPECCABLE this time) and if you read it and still have questions, please send me your questions! I would be better to tell you that the Casa is horrible so that we could be assured our future visits being available but Saskia and Marc wouldn't deserve it after all the hard they put into their little gem!!!

We have just returned from a week's stay over Christmas and New Year at Casa Veintiuno.
The great reviews we read on trip advisor prior to the booking gave us high expectations of the hotel and we weren't disappointed, in fact it was everything we had hoped for and MUCH more! Saskia and Marc are the perfect hosts and from the moment we sent the first e-mail to arrange the booking their customer service was excellent!
Saskia was so welcoming when she collected us from the airport and this put us at ease straight away, the hotel is located only 10 minutes from Puerto Plata and a short walk from Sosua beach.
We stayed in suite 1 which was modern, spacious and very clean (just like the photos we had seen on the website)! Our room had its own jacuzzi which was lovely for relaxing in after a day sunbathing by the pool. The towels were changed regularly and the room was cleaned daily and had everything you could need on hoilday. The grounds are beautiful and with relaxing music playing whilst sunbathing round the pool it was bliss!
Sosua beach is a short stroll away and definatley worth a visit, Sosua is unspoilt and allows you the opportunity to experience the real Dominican Republic, something you don't usually get to see if you stay in on a large hotel complex or all inclusive resort. Marc gave us a quick tour which helped us find our way around.
Saskia and Marc took us to Cabarete one evening which is a 10 minute drive from Sosua and we enjoyed a meal at one of the beach restaurants, the beach comes alive at night with many modern bars, restaurants and beautiful lanterns hanging between the palm trees! We had a great time!
We met another fantastic couple staying at Casa Veintiuno and we all decided to spend New Year's Eve together on Cabarete beach, there was a huge party with dj's and amazing fireworks on the beach. We would recommend a visit if you are planning a trip over New Year.....it was an experience we will never forget! We just wish Saskia and Marc could have joined us partying on the beach too.
The food at Casa 21 is the best food we have ever tasted....every dish we tried was delicious, once we had eaten there we didn't want to eat in any other restaurants!
David the waiter is always smiling and makes great cocktails...passion fruit mojito was our favourite! Breakfast is great too, there was always a huge selection of fruit, bread, spreads, juice, smoothies, cereal, fresh coffee...well everything you want really! Saskia is always happy to cater to all your dietry needs and Marc makes the best scrambled eggs, omlettes and pankcakes!
Their lovely dog Blanquito is well trained, friendly and a super guard dog, we felt very safe during our stay.
This place is a true hidden gem and if you get the chance to stay here you will not be disappointed...our best holiday by far and worth every penny!
Saskia and Marc and all the friendly staff went out of their way to make our holiday so special and we cannot thank them enough! We also made some new friends, that we will definately keep in touch with.

I had low expectations overall for my trip to the Dominican Republic but I had a feeling that this hotel might make the difference. And it did! If I had stayed anywhere else on the North Coast I can't imagine being interested in returning to the Puerto Plata-Sosua-Cabarete area of the Dominican Republic but I have no trouble imagining a return to Casa21. Exquisite food, good prices, lovely rooms and setting -- and a very professional couple -- Marc and Saskia -- in charge. After 7 days at Casa21 I actually extended my stay there another 5...I've never even thought of doing that before...

if a small, quaint, tropical escape is what you're looking for, casa21 will not disappoint. this little gem is the antithesis of the typical 'all-inclusive,' and what a breath of fresh air it is to travel and actually visit the dominican republic, an amazingly warm, beautiful, and interesting country. my partner and i celebrated our one-year anniversary in the d.r. and loved this little get-away. saskia and marc are perfect hosts - attentive but hands off, offering advice for exploring nearby puerto plata, sosua and cabarete, and providing a calm space to relax. we had our breakfast alone in our room one morning, and then poolside the next, enjoying an impressive array of tropical fruits, delicious coffee, eggs, and breads. as others have mentioned, the passionfruit mojitos are to die for, probably the best we've ever tasted. the surrounding area of sosua is quintessential d.r., with lovely white sand beaches, bachata music that fills the air in the evenings, and a friendly vibe that will make you feel quite welcome. thanks saskia and marc (and blanquito, of course) for your hospitality - we loved our stay at casa21!
