Got off the plane in La Romana airport at 3pm and found out that some one else had taken my suite case their was one left looked like mine but not mine , talked with the Sunwing rep and figured out with him that the person who took mine was most likely the owner of the suite case that was left lucky their was a name tag and with the passenger list we were able to find out where my suite case was going, not in the same direction but the bus driver was able to contact the other bus driver who had already left and finally by 6.30 my suite case should up at my hotel .
We were assigned a room on the 1st floor in the back area of the hotel with two double beds next to the elevators, the shower had only cold water. I had asked for ocean view not on the bottom floor with a king size bed and was expecting hot water and air condition room with towels at least, for a four star hotel. Tried to change room but all I could get was a smile and maybe tomorrow. The next day the Sunwing rep was at the hotel so we asked him to help to get us a better room he went to the front desk with us and finally we were told the at 3 pm we could change room for a top floor room with a king size bed . The room we got was actual an attic room with a King size bed and if you looked out the window we could see the ocean. There was no balcony, no working air conditioning and at times there was some hot water (I got caught twice in the shower where the water shut off completely and if you wait 4-5 mins it would go back on). The water in toilet would run all the time unless you played with the handle and got it to stop (one day it would not flush ) as you can tell this hotel is really run down and is in need of renovations. The music starts at 9.30 – 10.00 am and at night stops after the show but then the disco starts and stops at 4am you could here the people and the noise all over its difficult to get a good night sleep there is no sound insulation anywhere .

The food, bar, animation and all the rest was top notch the service is very good and when they say happy to serve you they really are. The Italian restaurant is really good the beach is clean and there is a lot of beach chairs. Would not go back can get much better at the same price this is at best a 2.5 star hotel

First, some facts… My wife and I traveled to Juan Dolio with our two kids, 12 and 14…This is our second year in a row at the Coral Caribe during Winter break…Previous stays include Hamaca Boca Chica (twice), Casa Marina Sosua (twice), Samaná, Playa Dorada, and others... We booked thru Cheapcaribean.com which came in $500 less than Expedia.com last year. This hotel offers a great value…This is a 3 star hotel…so, if you are looking for a 5 star experience, then open up your wallet, pay up and go to Punta Cana…
We flew Jetblue from JFK into SDQ (Santo Domingo), 3 ½ hr flight, plus 30 min taxi for $40 to Juan Dolio… This is the nearest airport to Juan Dolio; a ride from other airports could take several hours…
( It is true that the infrastructure of the resort is in need of repair and some remodeling…) It is a great location so close to the airport and to Santo Domingo...We arrived at 11 am so the room was not ready…so we put our luggage in the closet next to the lobby, got our swimsuits on and went to the beach…Our room was spacious and nice with partial ocean view on the 4th floor, in the S block near the water activities area…we had a few ants in the bathroom, no big deal…lost water pressure once for a couple of hours…our A/C unit was not too cold, but it worked just enough to keep us comfortable…Try to stay away from the main building, too much noise day and night…The hotel gets crowded on Sat and Sun with lots of Dominican families spending the day at the resort; it is also the best nights at the disco and at the casino...
Pros: Long and wide beach, with plenty of shade and great sunsets…Enough umbrellas for those willing to get up around 8 am and get one…Great swimming in front of the hotel… Lifeguards are now posted at the pools…Bartenders are great…Cesar deserves a special mention for working so hard always with a smile…And, remember that a little tip goes along way; I got $50 in singles and I tipped occasionally...
A little advice about the three restaurants: try to get there between 6 and 7 pm and you'll get a table right away...
Cons: Too many fat guys in Speedos...and too many people blowing smoke in your face…
We are probably ready for a different area of the DR and are not going back for a third visit, however, we recommend this hotel to any one looking for a good value…

This is really a resort for snowbirds and European pensioners, who seemed to make up most of the clientele. If you want to eat, drink lots, and laze around, this is the place for you. This was a work conference for me - admittedly not the best choice for a working conference. There is no business centre, or place to make copies or print. Internet is only available (though free!) wirelessly in the lobby - NOT in the rooms. The restaurants were OK - the Mexican was a highlight, the Italian was over-rated. The house red had a strong aroma of urine and was thoroughly undrinkable. The beach is designed for lazing around drinking, not really for swimming, and the water activities were very limited.

My wife and 2 other couples arrived at 4am and were warmly greeted. The staff did all they could to accomodate all of us, We had some issues with the room and we were change with out any grief. Gregorie was very very nice looking into our concerns and did do everything that he could to please us. The entire staff from the bartenders, to beach activities staff, waiters and waitress alway greeted us with a happy smile and bent over backwards to make sure that we were well taken care of.I want to thank Jesus, Franklin, Marlon, "Rocky", Wilfredo, and all of you who made our trip memorable.
I had even lost a $20. battery charger and the staff found it and returned it to me, and would not accept any gratuity for their time or troubles. Thank you staff, and I hope that they will be all there when we return next year and hopefully with my entire family.
Thank you again Coral Costa Caribe for a very memorable vacation.
Jim from Mass

This is a great resort! The staff is probably the best part. They are always friendly, always smiling, and truly the most hard-working bunch I have ever seen at the resorts we have been to (Puerto Plata, Cuba and Mexico).
Beach – big with lots of chairs, you may have to look hard for a chair around midday, but we always found some. There is sandy water for swimming and further out a small reef and weeds where you can snorkel and see some fish. - The best of both worlds. Lots of beach for walking, and they rent out snorkeling gear and non-motorized boats. They also have a banana boat ride for $10. There are beach vendors, who are constantly asking you to buy their stuff, but you just say “no thank you” and they walk on. If you want a beach umbrella, you have to claim one before 9 am. If not there are lots of coconut trees for shade. One evening during our stay, there was a wedding on the beach; we had full view from our balcony.
Pools – there are three pools as well as a dedicated kid’s pool. We spent most of our time in the smaller pools. The pool in the section across the road is usually quiet and hardly anyone else there.
Food – fantastic! The main buffet had a great selection for all three meals. I found getting a cup of coffee in the morning a bit hard, but everything else was great. The a’la cart restaurants were all good, with great food selections, and professional presentation. One point though – it is first come, first serve, so we always got to the a la carts between 6:30 And 7 pm. After that you probably had to wait until at least 8 p.m. for a free table. We saw many upset people waiting for quite a while. My advice – just do not go between 7 and 8pm. When the other restaurants were closed – the Mango snack bar was open with pizza hamburgers hotdogs, fries, chicken and sometimes a small buffet of their own. There was something to eat 24 hours a day.
The grounds were well kept, cleaned and attractive. The internet café area with the Wi-Fi was handy. There were 6 bars, so lots to choose from. We went to the disco and the casino once or twice. The casino was an interesting distraction, but was small and a waste of time and money. The minimum bet posted at the tables was $5 so we sat down to bet and was told the first bet had to be $20. I found that a bit crooked.
When I booked our package I requested an ocean view room with two double beds. I wasn’t sure if we would get what we asked for, but we were very happy with the location of our room. We were right above the pool with a waterfall, probably one of the closest rooms to the beach, and right around the corner from the buffet. There as very little noise from the disco and nightly entertainment. I don’t think we could have asked for a better location. We were on the second floor S201. The room was big, clean and had two queen beds. The only downside to this resort is the bathrooms, they definitely need some upgrading. The toilet ran almost continuously, and sometimes would not flush at all. This became very annoying. We always had hot water and the room was cleaned each day with fresh towels. Be warned – they take the towels in the morning and do not bring back clean ones until around 4 pm. – so if you want towels mid-day you are out of luck. We saw no bugs except for some ants. DO NOT have any food or drinks in your room, and you will not get bugs.
Entertainment at night was good – ice breakers for those guests who dare to get up on stage, and then a dance show of sorts, with a different theme each night.
Outside the resort there is a very small tourist mall to the right. To the left there is a man with a “hole in the wall” shop with tourist items. This man allowed you to look at things without standing on top of you while you looked - very few vendors allow you to do this. He tells you prices and gives comments, but allows you to LOOK!
We took one tour off the resort called Catalina VIP. It included a trip down a river on a boat, a visit to Altos de Chavon (quaint medieval European style village) and a speed boat ride to Catalina island where we had lunch and great snorkeling (lots of fish), on the way back we stopped at a large tourist store, where you could look without being bothered.
Other items – Horse rides for $25 and 2 hour ATV rides from the resort $40.
I end with the biggest disappointment that we had on our trip, but it had nothing to do with the resort. We landed in Punta Cana airport and had to take a 3 ½ hour bumpy squashed ride to the resort. If you are traveling with Sunwing – make sure you land in Santo Domingo airport or La Romana (about and 1 ½ hours away) the long road trip was really the worst part of our journey. It also took a good 7 hours out of our vacation time.
It is very interesting how one review of a resort can be totally different than another, even at the same vacation time! I think a lot has to do with the amount you paid for the vacation, and the rates for a resort can fluctuate as much as $600 depending on the date. If you got a good deal, you had a great time, if you paid a lot you expected more. We were middle of the road $980 CAD.
