The perfect place to be in touch with nature and of course the ocean, every place is taken care of, and the whole staff made us feel like royalty. Special thanks to the general manager Isaac for making sure we had a magnificent stay

From the pick-up at airport to our return to airport it was a fantastic trip. We were greeted with refreshing Marguerite's and nice smiles! Staff, room with ocean view, food( one restaurant with nice variety), drinks(plenty), pool and beach access was great. If anything was needed from room service to an ironing board it was done. Could do arranged tours or explore on own(close to everything). Even though a small resort you'll have big fun. Give them a try you'll enjoy! My husband got a tad bit jealous so now I'll be going back with him!!

Room Tip: 3 levels I do believe, so 2nd or 3rd have views of ocean unless you want to be right on the ground.

In a country of under 900,000 and situated on a well-kept beach front, Ocean Manor is a charming 33-unit resort just at the edge of Cabarete. This town is about a 45-minute trip from the airport in Puerto Plata. We had two units next door to each other. Do NOT rent a car. We have driven in Mexico several times, but we wouldn't do it here - take the hotel taxi.

First, they do answer your email inquiries very promptly.

The resort has two pools, one that was a few steps from our patio and the other up by the ocean with an infinity pool. First, the rooms are not as grand, as say, a Mayan Resort in Mexico, but they are quite nice, and we loved the daily cleaning. Although there is a mini-kitchen, neither room had no plates, no pans, etc.… just a few glasses and coffee cups, but a decent sized fridge for the week. We probably wouldn’t have used plates or pans anyway. The bedrooms were quite adequate and clean. While there the first week of June (off season), we had about 5-8 other units filled so it was like having the place to ourselves, and we had a chance to visit with others from Canada and the States and the local staff. They offered water aerobics, but I opted for another pina colada 2 out of 5 times. LOL! Bingo at the upper pool was fun, and I won a bottle of rum.

Their frontage of the beach is cleaned every day and is very nice. The sand is deep and a bit hard to walk on, and it does get hot. They have lounge chairs with coverage on the beach. The great breezes made the beach or the pool just up above very nice for sitting. I would get up at 7:00 am and go up to the pool above the beach and do some computer work and watch the sun come up. It was lovely. However, the ocean current is very strong especially going out so going out beyond knee to waist deep is not advisable for your own safety.

The food was excellent! There were a few items we would not order again (our taste), but most dishes were yummy. Loved the flavor of the vegie soup, vegie & chicken soup, and cream of pumpkin soup. All portions are large! We liked the lunch menu a bit better than the dinner menu, but there were ample choices on both. Pina coladas were excellent! The staff knew us and our likes for drinks. Great and friendly service always.

San Jaun’s gift shop was nice, and he was fun and gave good prices. Likewise, they have a phone in the office where you can make US and Canadian calls for free. Internet was more or less ok. Connectivity was better in some places than others.

Nearby is Cabarete. We went in one day for shopping. It was fun and hot. Also went into Puerto Plata on a bit of a disguised “RCI vacation club sales tour.” I had made it clear that we were not doing a timeshare tour, but this was a vacation club tour – and the difference is…. We first taken to the chocolate factory (nice) then we were given time to shop at one store in Puerto Plata and then up to the plaza for a church tour. We wanted more shopping in Puerto Plata, but we had to move on to our “free lunch” at the vacation club. When I saw what was going on, I stressed again we were not doing any tour or sitting at a table with a sales person (we have owned timeshare since 1981 or 1983 and have done plenty of tours, but not this time). They were not happy, but I did let them show us a unit with something like 6-8 bedrooms – very high end (I do think our salesperson purposely drove the golf cart hard and fast as we were bounced around terribly and when we complained, he just went back to it – our pay back). Then back to the reception building. We insisted on going to lunch and not talking price at a table. Be strong!

A cousin from England, whose family has been going every year to the DR for 10-20 years told us to takes lots of $1s for tipping. I took $200 and used just over $70. The average wage for a worker appears to be about $120-$170 per month depending on the job and whether in the Free Trade Zone or not. While we were told we did not need to tip, we always tipped $1-$2 per person at each meal so total meal tipping for the week $21-$42. Likewise, we tipped the bar tenders up at the beach pool when we were finished, the taxi driver to and from the airport, the lady who gave us a fabulous massage… Also in the more populous area where the English cousin tends to vacation everyone took Visa, at Cabarete few businesses in the town took Visa likewise any extra services at our resort really needed to be in cash.

Minor issues: Cover on restroom trashcans and a bit more AC power on the main room AC.

Most people that I have observed in the DR were smiling, happy, well fed, and relaxed. The Dominican Republic seems to be a very good country. The vacation was a low-key relaxing one that the eight of us enjoyed. The “kids” with us all in their late 20s did go into Cabarete one evening for some nightlife.

Room Tip: We were in room 212 that was about 10 steps from a chase lounge chair by the lower pool.

We just recently came back from our vacation at Ocean Manor. We went to celebrate one of my cousin's birthday and the other's graduation. The resort was fairly empty because it was off season in which we did not mind at all! We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel and the staff (Andres, Javier, Ramon and Alexi, etc) were wonderful! It was a nice quite place to just relax and unwind. We did venture out into Cabarete for lunch one afternoon and down to another restaurant recommended by the staff that the locals love going to called El Samam! The food at the resort and at the restaurants were excellent! Taken a taxi is the best option when you want to venture outside of the hotel. Walking the beach was really nice and relaxing. Take Plenty of Pesos!!! My cousins and I can not wait to return again within the next year!

Staff is very professional, service oriented and bilingual. We loved our two bedroom, two bathroom suite and terrace with pool and beach views. This all inclusive hotel has great food and a plentiful drink selection for adults and kids! We lucked out with guests who had almost same age teens who made our trip more enjoyable. We took advantage of the proximity to all excursions and restaurants by the beach.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views and are quieter
