If you want a small comfortable place without the trappings of a resort hotel, then this place is perfect.
We stayed in February 2011 (I know, so long ago) and I have to apologise to Vassana, her Mum, Ian and Dang for not posting this 13 months ago! I have been spurred into action due to reading the latest reviews when recommending this place to a friend.
The hotel is a little out of the way. I recommend bringing a decent map with you (rather than having to rely on Ian to provide one after already arriving). We got lost due to the heavy road works around the nearby town (and to me not listening to my wife) and arrived much later than intended - but Vassana and Ian were there to greet us, took our food order and allowed us time to settle in our rooms before serving a simple but very tasty dinner.
As other comments note, there is a road running between the hotel and the lake but it is very quiet. A couple of motor bikes, a water truck and 5 monks did not disturb the peace.
The lake is wonderful and if you enjoy bird watching, this is a great place. I strongly recommend getting up at dawn.
The food is home cooked and authentically Thai (although the western style breakfast pancakes are also delicious).
We were with my parents who are in their late 70s / early 80s, and they had no problem with the facilities.
Of course this place may not be for everyone - it is not a swanky sports club with rooms and it is not a luxury resort. The bathrooms are small but clean, the shower has power and the water is hot. For us, that is enough. The service is provided by a small group of people and, unlike in a big hotel, they expect to have a chat about your plans and where you've come from - very reminiscent of a friendly B&B in the UK.
We were not looking for an enormous pool with sun loungers nor for a spa or world class gym. We actually just wanted a convenient place to stop off for the night, but we left wishing we had stayed much longer; surely the mark of great family run hotel.
