This felt more like a camp than a hotel with each room being a bungalow/cottage. All cottages were what I would call rustic- basic but clean- hard mattresses with giant pillows. Everyone was nice, massage services were good, as well as laundry services. Breakfast buffet just - meh. Grounds were pretty, breakfast served overlooking the water. Pool was nice and big with seating all around. Quiet location not far from all the temples.

Location – great location and views, being next to the river.

Facilities – the air conditioning works. The Wifi works. There is a very reasonably-priced taxi service that the hotel has sub-contracted to a local company. It is flexible – you tell them 20 minutes in advance, the taxi arrives and will also wait for you for an additional fee.

Entertainment – If having dinner at the hotel's restaurant, there is a live performance from a Burmese harpist. There is also a puppet show.

Complaints – lack of small notes (1,000 kyat notes) at the reception. Sure, the hotel is not a money changer but when bills are settled, this should not be a hold-up. I had to wait until someone could find 1,000 kyat notes. I also asked the hotel to provide a stamped receipt which confirmed that I had paid. The receptionist was slightly annoyed by this. (By law, these establishments need to provide stamped receipts to prove that they pay tax to the government. Otherwise, they could simply not put stamps and avoid tax, as these stamps need to be purchased from the government).

There was a short strand of hair in the fruit salad. I pointed it out to one of the waiting staff there. He simply took it away, without being apologetic. There was a lot of staff in the breakfast room but when you wanted to get their attention, it was difficult, as they were chatting among themselves.

The spa is in a curtained shared location. It is not in private rooms. I was the only guest there at the time. The staff trying to sort out the sound system in the first 10 minutes of a massage session was very distracting to what should be a calm and quiet session.

All in all, it was a very pleasant stay. However, the hotel needs to pay attention to details to make it outstanding. I will consider staying there again.

Dear Mranma,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. We stayed at the Bagan Thande for 3 nights & thoroughly enjoyed it. The resort is a great base to explore the temples from. We appreciated the surprise upgrade from a superior room (which is really quite basic) to a deluxe garden view room near the riverside restaurant. The rooms are spacious & reasonably clean but could do with a decor makeover - all that timber wall panelling is dated & dull. The gardens & pool area were lovely, as was sitting by the river for breakfast. We took the easy option & rented an e bike at the hotel - a little above the outside rate but the convenience suited us. The spa was a treat; we had a Myanmar massage - it was robust; be prepared to be contorted & walked on! It was both relaxing & invigorating. The staff were lovely. Housekeeping gave my husband a lovely surprise with a flower petal decorated bed & birthday cake on his birthday - it was charming. Not in any way pretentious- a lovely place to come back to after a morning or afternoon of temples & pagodas.

Very cute hotel mainly with bungalows which are big, roomy and cool. Each had their own balcony but all were private. Service was great, breakfast nice and view lovely. The pool area was large with lots of deck chairs and much needed in the afternoons.
The hotel organised a local guide for us that we used whilst hiring the e-bikes from the hotel. Bikes are only $4 for half a day and all the money for the guide went directly to him which was great. Definitely hire a guide for your pagoda / stupa sight seeing day and leave early as by midday it is so hot you will want to get back to the beautiful Thande Hotel for a swim.
Can not fault this hotel... a must stay at.
Also great little community of locals just on the entrance road that you can buy water from and they will drive you to New or Old Bagan for meals...The restaurant at the Thande is a little over priced..

Room Tip: We stayed in the superior bungalows near the pool. Was very quiet....

Bagan can be hot and dusty and returning each day to this lovely hotel was a pleasure. It has a beautiful setting on the river. I enjoyed a drink at sunset sitting watching the activity on the river. The pool is beautiful, large and clean. There is bar service at poolside. Another nice respite from touring in Bagan. We used the ebikes from the hotel which were perfect for sightseeing. Morning breakfast on the river was lovely and peaceful. There were a large variety of items to choose from. We had dinner there a couple of times- delicious but a bit pricey. We ate in Bagan but stomach issues brought us back to the hotel dinner for the next evening. Our room was clean, roomy and comfortable. We could sit on chairs on our little porch and enjoy the beautiful gardens. When we were there it was hot so all the shade trees and gardens were perfect to cool off. Staff were helpful and arranged transport for us. Loved this resort
