A temple that must be visited by every person who visits trichy. The beauty has been maintained except the shoes based inside the temple.

One of the 108 Divya Desam. Temple is beautiful. We need to really wonder at the architecture. How can one construct such a heavenly temple without modern equipment. Hats off. One of the oldest temples of TamilNadu. SriRanganatha Swamy (Mahavishnu in reclining form) and Thayar (Bhoomidevi, sridevi) are main deities of the temple. A must visit temple. It is very big temple and normally crowded on weekends. We can buy special entrance tickets Rs.25, 50, 250 for quicker darshan surpassing various queues. There is a provision for wheel chairs as well as battery operated cars from the dwajasthambam to the main sanctum. But vehicles are not allowed from main Gopuram, so one has to walk till the dhwajasthambam which is atleast 1 km. This is something to be worked upon to help devotees. Temple is surrounded by shops mainly clothes, dosa kadais, murukku moulds, etc. Quick darshan at Thayar sannidhi also available by paying Rs. 50. Thousand Pillars mandapam is one place to be visited inside the temple. Varieties of Prasadam like tamarind rice, curd rice etc are available on payment of fixed amount inside the temple. Those who do not wish to eat in hotels can buy in the temple prasadam counter and have it there itself. Did not see any monkeys, so it is a monkey free zone. Avoid buying flowers, fruits etc as they are not offered immediately.

The place is exceptional without a doubt.
Takes you a good 3h to check out all the temples in the complex. Plus another hour or so(depending on what time you visit ) for the darshan.
Not so good facilities for keeping the camera while going into the inner sanctuary as people are bound to carry it with them around outside in the complex and the cloak room outside doesn't allow cameras to be kept. Kind of a pickle as to where to keep the camera for an hour or so .
Otherwise a must visit place when in town.
