Went with a couple different outfits, and Whales in the Wild gets the gold star. Owner Phil and staff were really invested in making our experience great - they really take it to heart - and his Tongan guides were tops - amazing at spotting whales and understanding their behaviors to maximize your chance of a great encounter. In the end, that's what really counts and simply can't recommend them enough. (they also have great relations with other outfits and the locals, which really helps in finding the whales)
A tasty picnic-style lunch with a good selection was important for keeping our energy up all day - and they had quick snacks which were considerately delivered at various times to get the "snorkel taste" out of your mouth. The boat was easy to get in and out of (important when the whales are on the move and Whales in the Wild drops you where you may see a nice "swim by"). The gear they provided was also excellent - women-specific wetsuits and color coded fins so that you could find your size quickly and easily (again, important when you want to get in quick).
Simply put: a fantastic outfitter that has all the logistics worked out so that you can fully enjoy the experience of a lifetime.
Husband and I visited in October 2013 - and can't wait to return! We also had my mother, age 64, along for the fun - and they took great care of Mum too.
