What a delightful little restaurant this is old fashioned charm comfortable and professional. We have just enjoyed one of the best restaurant Sunday Lunches I have eaten not your usual pub junk at inflated prices. Sadly this was a quiet day for them but the food was absolutely great. Greeted by the owner we were seated and our drinks order was taken; as we were driving, wine by the glass was our only option but this was not a problem we were even given a taste of the wines to make sure that they were to our taste. The starters were very good Scallops with a very tasty horseradish and cauliflower sauce and cured herring being our choices. My roast beef was superb medium rare sirloin with home made yorkshire pudding and crispy roasties with proper gravy and al dente vegetables. Other choices were Pork T bone and Mackerel also of a very good standard. Plenty of time to chat between courses and an interesting chat with the owner on English Wine. If you want your food fast and your gravy thickened with bisto this will not be for you!! If you appreciate fresh cooked food served by attentive but not intrusive staff this is for you . On a hot sunday we could not manage a sweet course but the choice looked very good. We will be back it was well worth the visit.

Seldom do you find a restaurant in East Sussex (including Brighton) that can serve three courses to two people ( six dishes ) that all score 10/10.
This restaurant achieved this last Sunday Lunch with a very good wine testing selection.

Very well done.

My second visit did not disappoint. I love this little restaurant, it has just the most amazing ambience. As soon as you set foot through the door, you know that your evening is going to be special. You are immediately greeted with a smile. As before, the food was quite out of this world (fantastic Dover Sole) and the wonderful Colin has excellent knowledge about English wines (new to me). The restaurant itself is very pretty indeed and when you dine here, you know that you will have a fantastic experience. Never hurried...I have been fortunate enough to find this little piece of magic and I intend to be a regular.

This restaurant is also has a small hotel attached and caters for Weddings. The food is prepared by a very good chef. There presentation is excellent and it has a lovely atmosphere, mainly due to only 20 covers which means can be very romantic.

At first glance you may miss this place, set back from the Alfriston road near Drusillas. Enter the low beamed restaurant or when warm sit outside in the beautiful courtyard and relax. The whole place exudes quality and class at a good price. The food menu is excellent and changes on a rolling basis so regular diners will definitely not get bored. The wines on offer are amazing and the off licence sales very tempting. All in all, a place to visit once then you will be back - guaranteed!
