“Lovely and Cosy”

The cottage was ideally located for exploring and enjoying Harris. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Croft House. It is close to Stocknish Harbour where we sourced delicious fresh shellfish. It is 15 minutes from Tarbert and to Luskentyre beach. We enjoyed coming back to the Croft House after a day exploring the island. We particularly appreciated the open plan living space heated by the Rayburn. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and the cottage was very clean. We would thoroughly recommend the cottage for 2 couples or a family.

“Disappointing holiday rental property”
Reviewed 12 June 2017 for a stay in May 2017

My wife and I are not unfamiliar with the process of offering self-catering accommodation to the public, having previously owned a property in the east of Scotland that was of genuinely 5-star standard. The current Crofthouse at Stockinish did not come remotely close to this level and was the more disappointing because we came on from one in Lewis that was far better. In trying to provide a balanced review let me begin by saying that considerable effort has been expended on the external restoration of the house and that internally it was clean and warm, the latter due to the somewhat noisy oil-fired central heating. The shower was also of above average effectiveness. In itemizing the negative features (as we saw them) I offer the following list. Despite no mention in the published details, the house is not suitable for anyone with even mild mobility problems. The drive is steep and loose-metalled and poses a walking hazard. The staircase lacks a complete handrail and the only toilet is located upstairs. The beds are small, poor and uncomfortable. The bathroom wash hand basin is cracked right across the bowl, is discoloured and has taps that are very unsatisfactory. The bath is discoloured. On the ground floor, instructions for operating the assortment of television and hifi equipment seem to be non-existent. Signs of a ‘Please do not . . .’ kind proliferate. There was no welcome pack of any kind provided. Overall, the impression created was of an approach to self-catering more commonly found in the 1970s where any old assortment of second hand fittings and furniture was deemed acceptable. We felt that this property did not match up to the rental charged.

Cant help but feel that we're getting trolled by this chap and
I feel I must respond to this unfair and unrealistic review. I think it goes without saying that everyone else who has stayed at our cottage has had a wonderful time. We are on various sites not just this one and have a comments book in the house full of happy reviews.
Firstly the cottage is our own family second home not a five star listed accommodation, it was never listed as such. Five star accommodation is available on the island at much much more expense if searched for. In response to the questions on mobility issues, again it is not listed as having any of those features. If mobility issues have been a problem in the past most people have contacted us beforehand. This covers the issue with the graveled drive also, most people dont find graveled drives a problem. They are very common on the islands. The bath is an original cast roll top bath, not a brand new plastic affair. The instructions for house are in a blue folder which is left of the sideboard and the do not signs are for people safety, such as "mind your head". Regarding decor from the 1970's,this is clearly not the case but we do have various pieces of antique furntiture. Overall I think that the person renting the property has not looked at the listing properly or the pictures as the booking was taken very quickly when someone cancelled last minute. Im sorry they feel they had bad time, no one else has complained in all the time of renting the cottage either here on airbnb or anywhere else.

“Cosy stay on Ilse of Harris”
Reviewed 9 October 2016 for a stay in September 2016

We stayed at the Crofthouse on the Isle of Harris for one week. Form Tarbert it is about a ten Minute Drive to The Crofthouse. Follow the main route South till you get to a sign Art Cafe. After a cattle grill you have to follow the first street on the left (shortly before a bottleneck). Follow this route till you get to a church (left hand side) there turn right and then it's the first house on the left. The place was just fantastic to relax. The Crofthouse is a cosy and well equiped place full of charm and warmth especially when a storm is blowing and a fire is on in the stove.
From the Crofthouse it is about a half an hour drive to get the large beaches on the west Seide of the island or to find some great opportunities for hillwalks.
The only negative point is, that there is no view from the crofthouse over the landscape.

“Full of charm, the Crofthouse was warm and cosy, ideally situated on the most breathtakingly beautiful island!”
Reviewed 18 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

My husband & I have just spent a wonderful week, with our 3 boys, on the isle of Harris. We stayed the whole week at the Crofthouse and would return in a heartbeat! The island is beautiful and the cottage was extremely comfortable. The owners and neighbours were very helpful, providing great directions and answering many queries. We are a musical/arty family and to our joy discovered the house came with access to a piano and several guitars! With limited wifi on the island this proved a perfect opportunity to practice learning their instruments! The walls are adorned with some lovely artwork (nicer than any I could find on the island). All in all we had a fabulous holiday. Thanks to Jonny & Whyn
