The house and situation are pure delight. Very comfortable and well decorated throughout, particularly the bedrooms. All the equipment you might need and all sorts of extras (sauces, spices etc) books, jigsaws, toys, et al. Very quiet with its own little beach, nicely cobbled when tide out, water lapping at the low sea wall when in. View to die for, happy in a chair by the beach enjoying the view and watching the seals on the rocks. Sadly no otters this week. So sad to leave, hope to return.
Great location, first rate accommodation with private beach - what's not to like.
Day's can be spent just looking at the view and enjoying the wildlife on your
doorstep, hard to leave.
My grandparents used to own this beautiful house which I haven’t been to stay in for years. As you can imagine I was very excited! The house it self is minutes away from the centre of Tarbert. Has a long drive way which takes you away from the other houses so it’s very quiet. The front garden leads on to the pebble beach where you can even see the ferry going past where it births round by. The house is very spacious with 3 bedrooms, 1 master, double and 1 twin bedroom all with beautiful comfortable furniture and lots of Harris tweed accessories. The house also includes 2 stylish big bathrooms one which has a bath with jacuzzi jets and the other with a free standing bath with a sitting in front of the window so you can enjoy a view of the sea. The living room dining area has a large stone open fire to all gather round for a relaxing evening with either the big selection of board games in the piano room or a film with a glass of wine.
I can’t wait to come back down as the locals have always been so friendly and I wanted to write this review so everyone else can enjoy such a lovely cosy stay! To me the house is still as I remember. I’ve attached some photos from my stay, hopefully they will have let me load them.
We had the most amazing two weeks stay at Mol Ban. The house is beautiful with everything you need. Our two children age 6 and 7 loved playing in the adventurous but very secure garden. We spent hours exploring the beach in the back garden, climbing on the rocks and fishing. We even managed to swim in the sea! Sky movies was a great bonus for the rainy days along with the games provided. We loved the piano too! We also took Grandma with us who had her own huge master bedroom with seperate bathroom. We could make as much noise as we wanted in the other half of the house and Grandma could relax in peace and quiet! We could walk into Tarbert which has everything you need. The Harris Hotel has entertainment on. We Joined in with locals and learnt Scottish Dancing! The tearoom in Tarbert is fantastic. Just go once the ferry has gone it’s a bit quieter! Health Centre in Tarbert is very good too. Harris and Lewis has so much to explore we loved Husinish beach and Luskentyre. Scalpay lighthouse is worth the walk too. We went to the Atlantic playpark in Lewis which was great!
The owners of the house are so very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. Replying very quickly with any questions I had. I highly recommend Mol ban and loved it that much we have booked again!!
Ps don’t forget to sample the Harris Gin
We had many specifics we were looking for and were beginning to give up when we found Mol Ban!
By a beach - tick
Can see the sea from bed - tick
Good base to explore from - tick
Wifi (unfortunately was here to have some quiet time to study too) - tick
Sky TV (the bargain with the other half was movies whilst I studied)- tick
Secluded - tick
Then the bonuses included watching seals and otters and having a piano to play!
I had many lovely swims from the beach with the friendly seals joining me, then coming back to a roaring fire and a wonderful hot shower.
There was a bit of a problem with the TV but the owners got this sorted incredibly quickly and were very good with communication. Love the idea of a key safe - simple but would also be useful if you were holidaying in a group (or if like me you're prone to loosing things...).
It feels in the middle of no-where but is very close to Tarbert so it's nice to get there quickly from the ferry. Not a track to bring a low slung sports car down though (but adds to the adventure)!
I really hope we can come back with family and without work - kids would love the beach & there are loads of books and games if the weather isn't so good.
