“Beautiful Harris Cottage”

This was our first trip to this island - and what a place it is.
The cottage is beautifully situated with views of the sea over the village of Northton. We were blessed with fantastic weather - but had it been not so good we would still have enjoyed our stay in this cottage.
The walls have murals done by Suzan, the interior is very pleasant. The main bedroom has a very comfy bed and an ensuite (with Jacuzzi and shower and Sauna!) the other bedroom has 3 single beds and shower/toilet.
Jan and Suzan the Dutch owners have done all the work themselves and deserve to be proud of their achievement.
We saw eagles every day while on Harris- once from the garden. The corncrakes were also in the garden. Behind the cottage is an enclosed planted mini woodland with a pond that is ideal for walking the dog - and watching the greenfinches, stonechat etc from. Jan has planted it up with Black currant bushes, willows and various other trees and bushes to attract birds and no doubt humans too.
The local beaches and walks are the best anywhere I have ever been - so unspoilt and accessible straight from the cottage.
The cottage is in an ideal location to explore Harris - and Northton has a great takeaway/delivery food service at Croft36 which also sells bread cakes etc.
We loved our stay in Gannet cottage - the perfect location and cottage.

“spectacular wildlife in unspoilt natural surroundings”

After a briiliant holiday at Gannet cottage in 2013 we were slighly nervous our second trip would be an anti climax - we needn't have had any fears .If anything 2014 was like we had never been away but with even more surprises ! The previous year had been superb for wildlife & in particular my favourite -Eagles! Harris has got to be the best place in europe for close encounters with these magnificent birds! I was only disapointed not to show my family Otters .This year we made up for it & had good views of three different wild Otters ! The icing on the cake was seeing both Porpoises & Dolphins !
We even shared a beach with two juvenile white Tailed sea Eagles as my children enjoyed the freedom Harris allows .The beaches are stunning & four are within easy walking distance of Gannet cottage .The boys were most put out at the end of the week when they said there were some other people on 'their' beach!!
The cottage is beautifully placed & extremely comfortable .It was a pretty regular occurance to watch both types of British Eagles from the windows! For anybody wishing to explore the isle of Harris I could highly recommend Gannet cottage but you can't have it the week we have booked in 2015!!

We have just arrived back from a wonderful week at the Beachview Cottages. I really think that the photos on the website does not do the cottages justice. The views are spectacular and the cottages themselves are extremely comfortable. Clearly, Jan and Suzan (the owners) have thought of everything a visitor might need. Although this is a remote spot there is a lovely cafe just a short walk away which serves delicious coffees and cakes and there is also a well stocked croft shop at the bottom of the drive. We will return!.

We actually stayed at the sister cottage next door, Fulmar Cottage, which looks identical to Gannet Cottage. The location is in the quiet and secluded village of Northton within a five minute walk of a stunning beach with others not far from it. The facilities in the cottage are very modern and well maintained and if there are any difficulties, the owners, Jan and Suzzan live at the end of the lane and were keen to emphasise their willingness to sort out any problems or queries at any time. We had none but it was a comfort to know they were within easy reach.
West Harris is a magical place to holiday and I would recommend you take your children and grandchildren there because they will love world class beaches. I have to admit we were very lucky with the weather but if you have to be stuck indoors Fulmar Cottage is a warm and cosy place to stay.
