“Peaceful retreat in the ideal location”

Coachman's Cottage has been a real home from home for us over the new year break. Despite the chilly weather (frost in Porlock!) we have been warm and cosy (the log burner puts out a ferocious amount of heat).

We have really appreciated the special extra touches provided by the owners, David and Nicky - a bottle of wine on arrival, oodles of books to browse and games to play, and the warmest bathroom we've ever come across (underfloor heating and heated towel rail, plus an unending supply of hot water for deep soaks in the bath).

Above and beyond the owners' friendly hospitality (we highly recommend a tour of the spectacular garden!) and the cottage itself, the location has been perfect for exploring Exmoor. We've walked and cycled straight from the cottage to Selworthy Beacon and Dunkery Beacon, respectively, and revisited all our favourite places (The Valley of Rocks, Brendon) and soaked up the space offered by this amazing national park.

Situated on the road between Porlock Weir and Porlock, it has been incredibly convenient to walk to the local pubs for something to eat each evening. The Top Ship in Porlock served the best rump steak my husband has had in a long time, and we highly recommend Friday night fish and chips at the Bottom Ship in Porlock Weir.

We recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat near to the coast, within walking distance of shops and restaurants, with activities galore on the doorstep.

Great little place, situated well within walking distance of all that perlock wier has to offer. If you are ever looking for a simply break away from city life then this is the place,, the owners are very nice people and the town folk are welcoming esp the butcher. food in the local pubs is fantastic, we preferd the royal oak as it was less cramped at busy times. there are plenty of places to see within a short car journy, beware of the huge hill. your see what i mean when you see it. I would recomend this to any one seeking a short get away. great house great area. I will recommend to all my friends and family.. all in all fantastic.

“Fantastic Cottage with homely feel, and good facilities”
Reviewed 3 December 2014 for a stay in November 2014

We wanted a break to get away from the bustle of life and this place certainly fitted the bill, being located so close to the beautiful Porlock, the beach, and Exmoor. The views were stunning over the bay. There are some lovely walks nearby, which our dog really enjoyed, along with the private paddock to the rear, which we were welcomed to use. We've stayed in many cottages, and the decorative finish throughout, and particularly in the bathroom, good bed linen, and fabulous log burner, were all better than most we've stayed in. The spacious feel of the cottage was also very welcome, having a separate L-shape kitchen-diner, and a spacious lounge. The cottage was very warm, especially with the heating (which was newly installed), and the uber-efficient log burner made it super-toastie. We had a wonderful long weekend, and we were just settling in when it was time to leave. We would recommend this lovely, romantic cottage. The owners were very helpful, living just next door. We felt we'd only just started to explore the many things on offer nearby, and we used our time fairly well. We're likely to go back at some point soon and finish off what we missed out on seeing (mind you, that may require a few visits).

“Wonderful retreat”
Reviewed 23 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

I have been visiting the Porlock area for 50 years and it was somewhere I needed to go after a close bereavement. This cottage was the retreat I needed in my favourite part of the world, close to Porlock and the wonderful Porlock Weir, with sea views over Bossington. The owners are delightful and made me feel very welcome, and my elderly greyhound loved her morning runs in the enclosed paddock, where I would sit on the bench and look out to sea. I have marked one star down for cleanliness since there was an issue with cobwebs in the bedroom, but this was discussed with the owners and I am sure has been addressed. The stairs are steep so not really suitable for anyone with mobility problems. The cottage was tastefully decorated and roomy, and with a good sized tv unlike a lot of other places. A dvd player would have been welcome though. It was also very warm since heaters were included in the price and this was most welcome since I have stayed at places where I have often been quite cold. I would not hesitate to recommend Coachman's Cottage and am looking forward to returning
