This is our 3rd year back and once again another great week. Our party consists of 5 friends with 10 children between us. The house offers loads of character and space. The living area is ideal for relaxing and chatting. The garden is great for enjoying those sunny days and excellent for the children to play. Already booking for next year.
We have just arrived home after a fantastic family holiday in this wonderful house. The house was lovely and clean, the comfy beds were made up to our configuration, the garden was perfect for the children and dogs to play in. We have never stopped anywhere before with a kitchen so well stocked with equipment. Perfectly placed in the small town and everyone so friendly and helpful. Loved watching the horses going up to the gallop in the morning. We had a lovely meal at The Richard 3rd on saturday, all 20 meals on the table at once and all piping hot. Loved our visit to The Forbidden Corner.
This is my third holiday in the school house with my twelve grandchildren and four daughters . Younger children love the Forbidden Corner and the Children’s Farm in Bedale. All had a great cycling day at the Dales Bike Centre in Reeth. Riding in Masham. Fabulous evenings at the Richard the Third Pub in Middleham. We all played rounders and cricket on the village cricket pitch.
The house has everything you need but nothing that you don’t need such as breakable ornaments!
We are the King Richard lll Loyal Supporters Society and some of us were looking for cottages to stay in for Middleham’s King Richard lll week end - so what better than the lovely old School House right opposite Richard’s home - Middleham Castle? We had a wonderful stay and those lucky enough to bag a room at the front had a fantastic view of the castle and the racehorses as they made their way to and from the gallops every morning..
Steve and Daiva were always on hand to answer my many questions by email and nothing was too much trouble.
When we arrived (a mixed group of old and young) we couldn’t believe how many cupboards there were in the lovely, modern, huge kitchen - all full of every utensil and item of crockery you could ever wish for …plus 3 fridges and a freezer, a washing machine and a dishwasher!
Beds were lovely and comfortable with cool, white cotton bedding perfect for the hot weather and the modern bathrooms had lovely, white fluffy towels.
There are at least four pubs to choose from, all within a few hundred yards and they all sell delicious meals. The fish and chip shop was also open most evenings and they are the best fish and chips I had had for a long time. If you want to buy anything there is a well stocked general store just down the hill. If a bigger shop is needed, then Leyburn is only a couple of miles away. I think the nearest Tesco is Catterick Garrison and they will deliver.
There is room for about four cars at the back of the house, accessed through the gate in the road at the side, otherwise plenty of space at the front on the cobbles.
Personally, I can’t think of anything negative to say about this lovely house and everyone who stayed said they enjoyed it too :-)
This house is in a perfect position in this beautiful village. Our windows looked out on Richard III castle and the main village square. Every morning the race horses trotted up to the moor to train and yet we were also two minutes walk from three good pubs / restaurants.
The house itself is beautifully presented with a great kitchen and really nice bathrooms. The lay out is a bit quirky and although it says it sleeps 19, this is only if you are happy to have family rooms. The building is wonderful and there are great communal rooms and a very pretty back garden that gets the evening sun.
Altogether this is a wonderful house for getting together with friends and family. I can't recommend it highly enough. It is incredibly good value for such a great destination,
