“Idyllic Self-Contained Lodge.”
Reviewed 28 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Wonderful! Really enjoyed our stay at The Forge at Bedford Cottage, a very big thank you to Andrew & Carol, who made us feel very welcome & such a friendly couple. The cottage had everything one would need & expect. The area of Buckland Monochrome it's self was just lovely; although a tad too tight for me at certain parts of the road, but that's Devon for you!
Thanks Carol & Andrew

Liked best: lovely cosy fire
Liked least: Small bed, as we're used to a really big bed (or even singles)

“Warlmy welcomed”
Reviewed 3 March 2015 for a stay in February 2015

The accommodation was warm, very clean and comfortable. Breakfast pack was plentiful and fresh fruit was available. Had all the necessary essentials for our stay.
Andrew and Carol made us very welcome, and nothing was to much trouble.

“Amazing cottage for two”

My husband and I favour self-catering accommodation when we're away for more than a few days, so we have stayed in quite a few cottages / apartments over the years. The Forge at Bedford Cottage is easily amongst the best. It is incredibly spacious for two people, with a huge living / dining area and generously proportioned bathroom (with bath plus shower). The kitchen is fully equipped and the decor throughout is tasteful and cozy. It is a very attractive place to stay.

The Forge is one of two properties at Bedford Cottage and the other, The Lodge, is also well reviewed and has its own Trip Advisor page. The Forge is the larger of the two and it adjoins the owner's own home. However, it is completely private and quiet and we never knew if the owners were in or not. What is more, the owners themselves were lovely, very helpful and welcoming. They were always accessible if we needed them but otherwise left us to do our own thing.

The cottage is located in a small town but it is within easy driving distance of shops and restaurants, as well as Dartmoor national park (and in fact you can walk to the moors of Dartmoor easily from the cottage). There are public footpaths heading in multiple directions from the village. All in all, it is a quiet and charming spot and highly recommended as a base for the West Devon and nearby Cornwall area.

“Beutiful cottage, village and very helpful owners.”

The owners were on hand to greet us despite our late arrival and were very thoughtful even providing a bottle of champagne as we were staying over New Year. The cottage was spotless and well-equipped, ideal for the two of us. On the owner's recommendation we ate at the local pub which is virtually over the road. The food and beer were excellent. There are lots of local attractions and walks and we will need to come back to do more. The only (very minor) drawback is that there is no shop in the village.

Full points for a great place. Perfect to relax and enjoy being so close to Dartmoor and Cornwall's maybe prettiest coasts. Very nice and helpful owners - thanks for making our stay so comfortable.
