We had dinner here twice during our week in Moretonhampstead. Service was efficient and unobtrusive and the food was fine.

We had a warm welcome when we arrived. We were a group of 10 people, and even though we pre-ordered, the food was brought to us timely and very hot. All the staff were attentive, but not pushy, friendly and helpful. The food was of a very high standard as nearly all of us ate different meals. We all really enjoyed our evening and would recommend this restaurant. Probably not suitable for disabled.

Turned up at 1:45pm for some lunch on a Saturday where it clearly states they serve lunch until 2:30pm on their website only to be told the chef has finished for the day. We were the only ones in there other than staff and they clearly did not want to do any work especially as we were not one of the locals. Do not bother going here, very rude!

We were made very welcome. Pizzas were exceptional but I particularly liked the Caesar salad with chicken... yum. Great atmosphere and not overly attentive staff. Ticked all boxes for a relaxing afternoon lunch.

Had lunch at the Horse today with the Mrs. Been wanting to go hear for a while after hearing great reviews and an alternative menu seemed appealing.

However from arrival it was clear we weren’t going to get a nice relaxing lunch as planned. The two and only waitresses were rushed off there feet. There was no warm welcome. We waited at the bar for 10 minutes and were told someone would be with us shortly. After getting some drinks we were told there would be another wait for food, so we took our drinks and went and sat on the sofas.

A further 10-15 minutes later and our order was taken and we chose to eat where we were. The food arrived promptly and was tasty, but it was soured by the waiting and lack of greeting/chat you expect from a cosy town pub. We weren’t asked if our meals were ok or offered water, more drinks when our glasses were empty etc all basic things you’d expect really.

The plates were cleared and no option of dessert? Come on! I know your busy but it’s summer in Devon, expect walk ins and prepare. Maybe open for food at 12noon to give yourselves a little more time.
