9 of us (6 adults & 3 kids) plus a dog stayed at the Doctors House for 3 nights at Easter weekend.
There was plenty of space, the beds were comfy and all equipment you could need in the kitchen. The house was warm once we got the boiler sorted (thanks Angus). As other reviews have said the house could do with a little TLC but for us it was perfect. Having one shower wasn’t an issue.
The location was also perfect with only a 2 minute walk to the beach, shops, cafes etc. I would definitely recommend for groups looking for a holidays home in North Berwick.
If you read some of the reviews you may be put off but don,t let them. Yes there is only one stand up shower but there is a shower attachment in the upstairs bath plenty of hot water and we didn.t need to queue and there was 11 adults. lots of kitchen equipment lovely and warm great location The beds are comfortable and the bedding is fine. It does need a little TLC in some places but it did not spoil any of our stay we all had a brilliant time and would recommend this to anyone it really felt comfortable and relaxed and you did not feel like you are in some sort of show house where you are frightened to move. Lots of things for kids to do as well although we did not have any with us.
Eight of us stayed for three nights whilst on a Golf trip. It's in a great position for the pubs, restaurants and shops, the house is large with plenty of room even with eight of us. The only criticism would be that there is only one shower and all three bathrooms are very dated. Apart from that a great place.
The house is in a great location, it is a5 minute walk to the station with a great service in to Edinburgh. It is also only a 2 minute walk to the beach and shops and restaurants. The house itself was once probably very beautiful . High ceilings, good sized rooms and magnificent views from the first floor lounge out over the bay. It is in need of some tlc , especially the bathrooms . There is only one shower which is not enough if you have a large family group staying. The beds have very ancient linen which really should be replaced. There are notices all over saying things like ' sorry the tv Ariel doesn't work' ' don't draw these curtains' ! Bedroom blinds are made of some kind of paper and don't keep the light out . Kitchen cupboards have replacement doors without any handles. There are huge holes in the plaster work around the downstairs bathroom . I would recommend the house for its location and size but not for style or comfort.
We stayed in the Doctor's House as a party of 14 and there was plenty of space. It is a very comfortable house but is in need of some TLC. The bathrooms were very dated and with only 1 shower for the whole place there were a few queues! There was also a lack of adequate curtains, blankets and towels had to be employed so that the kids in the top rooms could sleep past 5am! Lots of missing light bulbs, a dishwasher that didn't wash properly and a TV that couldn't get anything but the BBC iPlayer were details that need to be addressed. These were minor problems though and they didn't spoil our holiday, its just these kinds of basic, easy to fix details that should be sorted out.
The location of the house was perfect, 2 minutes walk to the beach and the shops. We had a great stay and if the problems were sorted I would have given the house a higher rating.
