“Location, location!”
Reviewed 6 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Perfectly placed cosy cottage. Great selection of bird life to watch from the windows. We even saw a Red Kite patrolling over the marsh. Very handy for the shops & various eateries in the town..Cottage worked well for us as a couple - comfortable & well equipped. Our only suggestion for improvement would be brighter lighting for cooking & reading in the winter evenings. We hope to revisit soon.

Thanks for such a lovely review. We intend to address the lighting upstairs this winter, with brighter bulbs as a minimum. Welcome back anytime

“Continued to thrill”
Reviewed 28 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

I am always nervous revisiting a place I have loved as much as we loved the old whelk house last year. My worry was in vain. The house was as lovely as we remembered, the location is awesome, the binoculars and telescopic as exciting as before. My children call it the ship house as the view over the harbour couldn't be more magnificent and my hyperactive 2 year old sat for hours watching the boats, digger, tide, sand and spotting all the amazing changes through the day. That for me is pure gold dust. Relaxing, lovely and amazing value. Thanks again!

“Ideal for a couple”
Reviewed 24 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

It's hard to find places that are for two people, even harder to find somewhere with a good view too. The Old Whelk House had a wonderful view and was also very convenient for the local shops and restaurants. We will definitely go again.

Centrally located, yet quiet on Eastern Quay. Everything you could possibly need. Beautiful cottage, well equipped, with two picture windows to watch the ebb and flow of the tides, the boats, the birds. Very helpful notes from the owner.

“Location great, comfortable, but lighting very poor- very dark & dismal in the evenings”
Reviewed 15 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

The Old Whelk house is an upside down house (the bedroom and bathroom downstairs and
the kitchen and living room upstairs) which we liked. The house is well equiped, albeit with
odd crockery and cutlery. All the walls upstairs are red brick and the ceiling and floor dark wood, making it quite dismal especially in the evening. The lighting is so poor we could not read and preparing food in the evening was not good. This was a problem for us and will be much worse in October onwards. Luckily the weather wasn't too bad for us, but the day it
rained all day we could have done with good lighting!

Thanks for your review. I'm very sorry you found the lighting poor upstairs. We are hoping to refurbish upstairs this winter and will look at improving the lighting then, in the meantime adding some higher wattage bulbs.
