Upon arrival our cases were brought to our room without us having to ask. The room given to us was of a modest size. Consisting of twin beds, a table in the room and outside on the balcony two chairs and a table. From our room on the 11th floor we had a direct view onto the swimming pool and also a side ways view of the sea front.. We were pleased with being given a free safety deposit box and free tea making facilities. Tea bags, milk and coffee replenished daily. The television provided BBC 1, ITV, Sky news, BBC world news, channel 4 at no extra cost. One could hire Sky if one wanted but what was provided free met our needs. We hired the fridge which cost approximately 2 euros per day. The bedding was changed regulary as were the hand / bath towels. The chamber maid kept the room spotless. Air conditioning was available, free of charge, and we found it to be very effective. The shower in the bathroom was very effective with a good strong delivery of water.
The dining room is self service. Meal times are 7.30 - 10.30 for breakfast and 17.30 - 21.00 for the evening meal. We were never kept waiting for a table and never experienced long queues at the food dispensing tables. There was always a choice of salads, main courses, fruit, gateaus, cream cakes etc. Hot food items were always hot and we never found items had run out before the end of the set meal sessions. We were never disappointed at what was available. Food of course is a very personal thing and what might please one might not please another. When we went out on day trips we were very satisifed with the packed lunch provided, e.g round of ham and cheese sandwich, yogurt, apple, orange, banana and pure orange drink.
We spent part of each day by the pool. We found there to be lots of sun beds with ample shades and there was always plenty free when ever you went down to the pool. One nice touch is that in the cafe/bar next to the pool was a limited range of daily english newspapers for the use of clients sitting by the poolside at no cost. We found the staff in the cafe to be very friendly and the service was very quick and efficient. A range of snacks were available. Meals consisting of a toasted sandwich ( various filling on offer ), salad and chips at a cost of 6 euros approximately. A large plate of very nice chips was availabe at 2.5 euros approx. There were other snacks available. The meals were cooked in no time and you could eat in the cafe, at the tables outside or at your sunlounger. Each day between 12 noon and 13.00 hours was the happy hour. One could get two pints of larger for the price of one. A total of 3 euros. Same applied to all spirits and soft drinks, two for the price of one. Coffee and water for some reason did not feature in the two for the price of one offer. The pool was very nicely kept and and the water in the pool, although quite cold, was not a problem if you got in straight away.
We found the reception staff to be exceptionally helpful. Euro Notes were always changed for lower demoninations immediately upon request , advice was freely available and when we needed a maintenance staff member on two occasions, they were at the room within 15 minutes and resolved the problems to our complete satisfaction. Possibly the best reception staff we have come across in our stays at various hotels.
Entertainment was in two parts of the hotel. In the main lounge there were various performers nightly, usually a singer and someone on the key board. We went there one evening and were very pleased with the quality of the music. The gem of the entertainment is in the downstairs disco (why it is called a disco I do not know since we never found a disco to be held there), where on the two other nights we went down there the two men and two women professional entertainers sang popular songs and danced various routines. These performers were of a very high standard (They also laid on activities next to the pool and in the sports room during the day). Also nightly a resident duo performed, in the disco but they were only moderate in comparison. In the disco area there was a large section set off for the non smokers which was immediately in front of the stage.
The happy hour operated from 21.00 - 22.00 hours when again larger, spirits and soft drinks were two for the price of one. We got two lagers for 3 euros and two glasses of Baileys for six euros. The disco area could get very warm and there was no evidence of the air conditioning being in operation.
We went on three day trips, all were good, but in particular we found the trip to the El Charro lakes to be excellent. It comprised of going for a 50 minute inter city train ride on the Malaga to Seville train and before reaching Seville getting off to be met by the coach. We saw beautiful scenery, especially the man made lakes. Very leisurely and relaxing. The two of us went on the day out to Granada, the day to Gibraltar and the day to the El Charro lakes at a total cost of 330 euros ( 3 full day trips).
Outside the hotel there are bars and restaurants serving drinks and meals. We found a pint of San Miguel larger to be 2 euros and Baileys 4 euros. A 500 mil tin of San Miguel could be obtained at the local supermarkets at 1.10 euros.
One tip is in relation to weight of cases when leaving Spain. We had a baggage allowence of 20 kilos each and hand luggage of 5 kilos each. Which we planned for before setting off. When leaving Spain the rules state that if your luggage is between 20 - 23 kilos you have to pay an access of 9 euros per kilo. Above 23 kilos you will not be allowed to take the access. They also weigh your hand luggage. We witnessed one couple having to move items between cases / hand luggage to meet the weight limits. There is in the hotel a scales which staff will operate for you and it costs 1 euro per case.
At the hotel there is a luggage room for people to deposit cases before they leave and they have a courtesy room, free of charge, where you can freshen up on your departure day ( we did not use it because we reserved our room until 18.00 hours).
Every person I spoke during our stay spoke well of the hotel.
The Thomson Rep. Linda was always around and very approachable.
In conclusion we found all the staff at the Yaramar knew it was their role to ensure we enjoyed our holiday and this we did.
