The Arco de Los Gigantes is the right landmark to start off visiting the Alcazaba and the Santa María la Mayor. From the Tourist Information center at the Plaza San Sebastián it requires a relatively short walk uphill to reach this gate. Once there your camera starts making overtime and the gate offers you a nice framework for your pictures of both Antequera beneath your feet and the Santa María church.

Very impressive gate at the entrance to the Alcazaba - inside the Alcazaba one can also walk on top of the gate.
Either way there are stunning views through the gate. In one direction one has a fantastic view over Antequera, the other way is the facade of the Colegiata de Santa Maria la Mayor.
Definitely a must see, but also hard to miss if one visits Antequera, as it is right next to some of the main attractions.

This gate who is made in a wall who is about 2 meters wide and about 7 meters high and is from the year 1585, and this arch has a double signification for the city, to know the monumental aspect and in second place we do have his historical signification. When you enter by this gate, you are arriving at the entrance of the Alcazaba, and at the end of this street, you have the “Collegiate Church” and the “Termas Romanas.

Made for some great photos. It was a rather impressive gate. The audio guide from the Alcazaba explained the figures on the gate.

When you arrive in Antequera, you will need to ask directions to the Officina de Turismo, in the Plaza San Sebastian. We didn't find it well signposted.

You will need a map to find your way around Antequera, but it is not far, UPHILL, to the Giants' Gate, the entrance to the historic area, from where you will get great views, and photo-ops.

If your budget allows, and if you are up to steps, visit the Alcazaba Citadel.
