First we found Paula, the owner/chef and her daughter to be delightful. My partner and I shared 3 pastries (walnut roll cake, almond egg tart, mille feuille with fresh pineapple) alongside delicious double espressos for a late breakfast.
She showed us her secret for making the most nutritious and delicious Caldo Verde: steaming the veggies in stacked steamer baskets before being puréed into sopa.
We said we would return for lunch later and did, to savor the clean, amazing flavors of slivered cabbage and thinly sliced linguizia, alongside potatoes, leeks, onions, scallions and celery. This combination makes for a fantastic bowl of soup! Accompanied by some of the BEST bread in Portugal thus far, we were delighted and impressed.
Of course, a warm banana caramel cake, fresh from the oven that we saw being baked earlier, hoist itself upon us and we happily obliged!
What a find, what a location, what a chef! Paula cooks with love in every bite that she creates, and it is easy to see why she loves what she does. Thank you so much Paula. A true artist in the kitchen!
