Gables Guest House

Stayed before 4 years ago and again this past weekend. We wouldn't have returned if we didn't know the deal. It isn't 5 star so people with those expectations will be disappointed. However, it is very reasonably priced and convenient to the town of Newbridge. Rooms are a good size and are reasonably clean. It does show some signs of wear and tear in places. It does a great breakfast and the staff that we dealt with at reception and in the breakfast room were very friendly and helpful. The Gables is realistically priced, provides a pool and gym and for €40 per night B&B was fine for our family visit needs for this trip. The Gables doesn't have a bar but is close enough to the town centre (10 minutes walk) to do the shops, bars and restaurants.

Room Tip: We stayed in the newer part of the hotel to the back of the Breakfast Room (5 rooms out of the 6 ava...

it had been a while since i stayed here until recently but in my opinion it has gone downhill a bit. the rooms are very dated and are in need of a coat of paint. The room just looked very tired and uninviting. The breakfast was well done to say the least. A little updating would do wonders for the place.

I had a gym membership here but I eventually left as the whole place just grossed me out, staff narky especially the owner, shower and changing areas dirty, no working locks on bathroom doors, smell in showers, one day a mouse ran out at me.

I would love to get my hands on this place and do it up, it has a beautiful garden area in a lovely area, and situated brilliantly close to the town, such a shame :(

We stay here as it is close to family but gives us our own space. As mentioned in other reviews the rooms are quite dated and there are a few imperfections. But they are clean and rooms are spacious.

Pool area and gym are a plus.

Breakfast is always really good and definitely the best bit.

Would stay again but would be excited if the rooms were freshened up a bit!

Just used swimming pool today for first time. I was with my 21 month old son. Woman on reception wasn't a bit nice. Very curt. Had to ask where to go to find changing rooms. Was told where to find the family room. Found the family closet! Ridiculous little room with an old weight lifters bench thrown in and expected to do. Kicked this stupid thing twice in bare feet. Then as a previous reviewer said, you have to walk out into the corridor on tiled floors, without any mats to avoid slipping. Swimming pool itself is actually ok. Not too warm, not too cold. There is a section of the pool that looks like Jacuzzi feature but it doesn't work. Like two other water features I could see. Place in bad need of repairs. Brackets loose on shower and urinal fixtures. Lots of rusty screws etc. Overall its a pity this place is badly designed and badly run. Won't be back. Was going to get an annual family membership if it was good, but nowhere near good.
