We went to Ireland to explore my husband’s heritage so when we went we asked our Travel Agent to arrange our trip so we would as a whole skip the usual tourist spots. That is how we found this hidden gem! We met Hazel who explained the mission of the Heritage Center. The Heritage Center is divided into two parts: the history of the Fishing Village and Industry plus the history of carpet making, beautiful hand knotted carpets were made in this location. And the best part is you get to try your hand at knotting a carpet. It is a great little side trip if you are in the area and I would highly recommend it!!

Fascinating view off the carpet industry-the film is excellent and Siobhan was very delightful enthusiastic and informative despite us dropping in close to closing time . Well worthwhile seeing -

Pretty little museum with a very personal and private tour by Siobhan. We skipped the part of watching the film and only booked the tour about carpet making. Thanks to Siobhan for explaining everything.

Cruise ship in this small port, we found ourselves in front of the museum. A young woman came and invited us in, showed us about, and we took the tour. Most interesting to see how carpets were made over the ages and what has happened to this small town over the years.

There is also a maritime section that is fun. Well worth the stop, get to know the people, they are amazing.

museum closes quite soon - we arrived a bit more than an hour before it closed, so we got a partly reduced programme. Despite it was only for us, the guide did an excellent job, with plenty of stories about individuals (including relatives of the guide), population of Killybegs, and its past and present economy. And at the end she kindlly gave us a map of a wider area so we could find clifs and rugged areas the next morning :) cute!
