We had a excellent stay at this hotel! Clean and nice appartment and Marika and her parents were treating us as their friends. We got the best service and we would recommend Akti Kamares to everyone. We will come again!

We just returned from a wonderful stay at the Akti Kamares over the three day long weekend with our two young children (2 and 5). We found the reviews posted here to be very accurate--the hotel is very comfortable and run by a lovely family who deserve particular credit for making our stay so enjoyable. We were very pleased to see how well maintained, clean and well appointed the rooms were given the very affordable price of the lodging. We were interested both in touring local sites and relaxing and we managed to do both. Our hostess made several recommendations for local tavernas and places to visit around the Mani and they all proved to be excellent. For those of you contemplating a day trip to Monemvasia, this is easily possible. It is only about 1hr15 minutes away by car and we were glad to come back to our more secluded spot at the end of the day. Although there were many children in the hotel while we were there, the atmosphere was very peaceful. We especially enjoyed sipping wine on the balcony under the full moon and the sound of the waves lulling us to sleep at night. Overall, our stay felt more like a visit with friend's than a stay in the hotel. We hope to return in the future.

This is the perfect place to stay if you want to get away from it all and enjoy the sunshine and sea. The apartments are spacious, well equipped, and comfortable and have all the equipment you need for self-catering; those on the first and second floor have balconies, and the superior rooms look towards the sea - a perfect spot to enjoy a drink in the evening. The owners provide a welcome basket when you arrive, including locally produced olive oil and honey, and they offer complimentary coffee and cake every morning. The beach is only a few metres away, and the hotel has private sunloungers and umbrellas set aside for each room so you are guaranteed a spot. They also provide beach towels, and a shady area where you can sit. The beach is sand with some shingle - it's grey rather than golden and rather narrow, but if that bothers you there is a golden sandy beach at Skoutari only 5 minutes drive away. The sea at Kamares is perfect for swimming, since the bay is very sheltered and most mornings it's as still as a lake. The area is very rural and peaceful, without much development, so it's perfect if you want to get away from the crowds. There is a taverna at the end of the beach, and two other excellent tavernas within 5-10 minutes drive, so you don't have to go far for meals, and the nearest town is about 12km away. The hotel is located with easy access to both Gytheio and Areopoli, and both are very nice towns with lovely cafes, restaurants, and bars.

Another excellent feature of the hotel is how friendly and welcoming the owners are. It is a family run business, and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome and ensure you have everything you need, and provide lots of advice about the local area. Although the hotel is fairly isolated, it's well located for exploring the rest of the Mani, and you can also do daytrips to Mystra and Monemvassia.

The rural location was a big plus for us, but it means that Kamares wouldn't suit people who like lots of activities, or who want nightlife readily available, so you should bear that in mind before booking. However, if you're looking for relaxation, you couldn't do better.

Room Tip: Superior rooms have two balconies, one facing the sea directly and the other on the side of the building

We stayed at Akti Kamares me , my wife and our 3 children ( 9yrs , 2yrs, 3months ) at July 2011.
The rooms are very well equipped with much space and very clean.
The most rooms had 2 balconies ( 1 facing at sea ) with a small table and 2 chairs so you could relax looking the sea at the evening.
The beach was very close to the rooms ( 50 metres away ) without any road between so was very safe for the children.
At the beach every room had it´s own umbrella with 2 beach chairs so you could go anytime for swimming without concert about find them empty.
Finally the owners Grigoris and Marika are a very warm and helpful people.
You think that you stay at a friends house not a renting room.
The overall experience was great and we looking forward to visit them again next year.

We recently returned with my husband from a very interesting trip into Mani region, in South Peloponnese. Mani is a region we prefer for our holiday because we have far away roots from there. By searching to find where we could spend our 1 week holiday we found in Internet "Akti Kamares". The truth is that the website doesn't give exact idea about what you will find when you step your foot over there. We called the hotel to ask for a room and we were lucky enough to find a room for 2 in a reasonable price.
The hotel is located on a very beautiful, clean and sandy beach called Kamares. In order to swim you don't have to take your car, you just step your feel outside the hotel and you have your umbrella and sejlong waiting you there. We chose to stay on a seaside hotel because the nearest city by Gytheio doesn't have a place to swim, plus we needed a place to relax. Our room was sea view, very clean and nice. It had Internet access. The owners ( a local family) were always around there helping us with anything needed. Nearby the hotel there are 2 small family-owned tavernas with local specialities. The nearest mini market is 10 mintues by car and the nearest city is 20 minutes by car.
The location is ideal for families with children as well as people who want to relax and enjoy clean sea and nice weather. If you want crazy night life, this is not the place to be. I would like to add that the region is rich in history and cultural monuments.
Only problem i could say is the lack of breakfast; however in the room there is coffee and other things which you can use.
Also another issue is that because the hotel is a bit isolated you absolutely need to have a car!
